Thanks to all who replied I found the problem by sheer genius. 2 wires coming out of the relay were touching[ miniscule] both were just frayed by previous owner placing relay in back to front bending the wires at right angles this caused the illumination lights to fail.B4 I posted I checked and traced every bloody wire Coops :'(

I think the trip switch thats behind the relay both sit in rubber surrounds not sure what the relay does as headlight etc work only speedo and tacho lights dont work so wires that are broken affect the connection so somewhere in the relay the connection is made. Should I just cut out the relay and reconnect the wires  Coops

Havent got a bike in front of me at the moment to reference, but is it directly over the coils? sounds like the tip over switch if it is. If so you could probly hot wire it. and be rid of it.

RH relay replacement

Can anyone steer me in the right direction. The relay that sits above the coils has two wires that were broken due to previous owner placing the relay back to front so illumination lights etc failed .Question can you use a standard relay? with 6 wires coming out or do you have to replace with a similar part   I would suspect they are as common as rocking horse do dars anyone had a trip down this road Coops.
