test run
« Reply #10 on: May 10, 2013, 10:38:16 PM »
the test run went great, 3400klm throwing everything at it that the road had to offer, nothing could upset it,

the only test we did,nt give it was the waterproof test,, missed out by only minutes on ocassions

am very pleased with my effort,, now all to do is put the finished surface on it and give it a paint job, then we,ll see

The trailer's looking good Geoff, however I'm worried about your footwear so I'm including a pic of a new look safety boot that should appeal to you.

I hope you think so too.  ;D ;)

Cheers

some more time spent working on it with help from Ev again
shaping with12.5mm square mesh which will be glassed with 1 layer inside and out

the shape will make a larger area for storage

even the back has been sloped for less wind drag

2013 trailer
« Reply #1 on: February 17, 2013, 12:09:19 AM »
Ev came over today to help with the start of a new build,, a trailer for the bike to be ready for bourke,,
the idea behind this one to have the box sit just off the road, primarily to lower the centre of gravity, also for aero dynamics,

for the start of the build we,re using 3 lengths of 16mm box a few varying offcuts and an old axle off the last trailer,
starting like most of my builds they start with chalk squares and parts where they need to be

to gain the most of the space the idea is to have the floor down between the spring leaves with 2 side rail and pull sections, 1 top and 1 bottom of the main chassis frame

here it,s starting to take shape with the cargo well easy to see, the chassis rails are in place,, to get strength thru the design but retain the lightest frame possible, the bottom rails are stressed UP to the top rails and welded, kind of forming a spar truss, the other thing with the side railsand pull bar is they are one piece bent to form the whole trailer with no welding

the basic bottom part of the trailer has been formed, yet to be braced but you get the idea, the taper on the back is partly areo dynamic and partly practical for sharp drop offs

the last piccy for the day is the sides taking shape and the rear having been shaped

more of things to come as progress is made
