A belated up date.
Got frame powder coated. after all the info about scratching I covered parts of frame with glad rap and PVC tubing.

put engine still mounted to stand over bench and rested frame on engine and then slowly supported engine and bolted to frame..

only 2 weekends to go till rally. a big thanks to my friend Dave how stayed a weekend and helped out.

Dave helped me clean the Red fuel  tankit was bad really needed a seal up with those tank repair kits.
Grabed the black tank off the spare bike Sitting for 12 years since when I bought the bike.
It is almost perfect only required a quick flush and then fitted the re-coed taps and tfit the sender :-*

Tuned bike  ;D and then of course the front brakes thought I would save money and not buy those braided line form England and of course when I went to overhaul front calipers and master cyl found one line blocked ???. Had to get new ones only 7 days to Rally.
guy wanted $320 ??? to make up braided :-\ so went with new rubber $150 for 3 Lines.
Yeh all working off to safety cert guy Sat morning Yeah ;D
Then Monday off to transport for Rego  ;D yeah lady could read chassis number.
Its registered. had a couple of problems with top box and saddle bags but nothing occy straps could not fix.

Thursday midday its off to Bourke :P

Well got engine together so i can paint it with VHT black had some difficulty getting correct finish hope once engine going  and hot this will help??
Now the rest  needed to get bike off ground for ease. found a few sites with different work benches, decided to copy this one. Took a couple of weekends and about $170 worth of steel.
http://www.afabonline.com/table_lift_plans.htm

Got the bike out from under the covers and onto the bench

Where do you stop budget exceeded al ready. Frame starting to get surface rust plus chips and scratches battery box rusty fuse box needs updating. Found excessive play in drive shaft uni joint thank God spare bike has good one, remembered about no grease on the splines on drive shaft

Had to take rear wheel off to lube and replace disc rotor as under sized measured 5.6mm and by manual should not be under6.5mm thank god again for spare bike again. while doing this found rear master cylinder dry put fluid in and found leaking!
Always thought steering head bearings where notchy and they where.

SO now look where I am.

Time running out one thing I have complete brake overhaul kits + steering head bearings.... :o

I think Jonesy's on the money John, the dots are to the rear side of the marks,,put your bridge in turn the cams forward to the marks which will put the slack in the chain to the adjuster, let the adjuster take the slack and you should be right

Dots are very close indeed. I notice you got some slack in the chain between the 2 sprockets and no bridging/chain guide thingy. Get the bridge in and you have to get all the chain slack to the front ie: between the crank and the exhaust cam sprocket. took me a bit of time to do mine but with your tongue held out at the right angle it'll all come together with dots just about perfect

Thanks.
Hoping end of month ( unsure which month HA ha)
Some advice or words of wisdom required. set up TDC

99.9% sure its right.
But marks on cams not quite on marker line.

Any thoughts??
On weekend will try rotating sprockets 90 degree see if that helps.

Been a bit short of quality time for the engine.
But got cases together with new seals , primary chain, cam chain , crank and conrod bearings couple of new gearbox bearings.
Got head back from engine shop, got exchange cam shim from Yamaha for $10.

On weekend assembled shifter and cover, had trouble getting a case dowel out without miss shaping it found by putting tight fitting bolt inside could grab dowel tightly and remove without damage to shape.
Next the clutch, I had checked the plates and springs and de burred clutch basket
    (When first pulled down)

To tighten up the large nut for the clutch without the special tool I used the other pressure plate
Removed the centre bearing so socket would fit through and with 2 longer threaded bolts with nuts
Tightened up plate and used long screw driver between bolts to hold while tightening.

Merry Christmas came and went this weekend got pistons on rods and lubricated mechanical advance unit,

Fitted new orings to bottom of cylinder sleeves but had trouble getting them to fit in correctly found lid off my fruit container a perfect fit.

New Years eve before work got

Barrel on using hose clamps for ring compressors as suggested. Don’t have dial gauge for top dead
Centre so used digital veniers with wife’s help before head went on to locate TDC (fingers crossed).
Put cams in Happy New Year.. Just need to set up cam chain.   and

with the spacers John, they will only fit where they fit snuggly on the shafts, if you have a lot of movementon the shaft, they,re  in the wrong spot

with the camera, half push the shutter button ,, most cameras will focus with a little beep, then fully push the button to take the pic

did you find the other balls ? is there any cage left?
I like your solution of mix n match to get the equal weghts, much better than drilling.....if you get it wrong theres no going back.
