Felt??   :o

As for changing them, make sure you get every scrap of gunk out of the channels where they sit otherwise the piston(s) will stick.  Be generous with the rubber grease too!

To get the old ones out I usually clamp one in with a G clamp, pump the other one out, change its seal, refill with fluid and repeat for the other piston. Messy but effective!

no mate, theyre the same size,,,, one,s felt, the other {which is where they tell you the cost is},,,a square section o-ring,,

they really have to be in a bad state before they become unserviceable,, clean them up first and see what they look like, fair chance the seal will still be as good as new

Hi Lou,
Have a look at these - CLICKY

Georgefix is a really knowledgable seller that I've dealt with in the past, plus his postage fees are much lower than a lot of the US based guys. (note that you will need two kits to do both calipers.)
Regarding the calipers, here's a list of bikes that use the same ones as stolen from the UK part number finder-

This Part is also found on the following Models
Suppliers of   Model   Model Id   Fiche Name   No. on Fiche   Qty   Part Name
Yamaha   XJ1100J   10M   FRONT BRAKE CALIPER   5   1   Caliper Assembly (Right)
Yamaha   XS11005K7   5K7   FRONT BRAKE CALIPER   5   1   Caliper Assembly (Right)
Yamaha   XS1100LH   4W1   FRONT BRAKE CALIPER   5   1   Caliper Assembly (Right)

Brake Calliper Seals.

In getting ready for the Rally, I rang the local Yamaha dealer about getting front calliper seals for the mighty RH, dealer got back to me today and said they are $65:00 each side?  :o Ouch. I"I don't want the pistons aswell" I told him, nop that is just for the two rubber seals either side. Are the RH callipers different to any of the other model XS's, does someone have a better source for these or a part number I can look for?

Cheers

Lou
