hey rhodie,
while u have the cam cover off,
rotate it to tdc and make sure the cam dots
are aligned,
to check the chains tension, lift the chain
with ur hand the centre guide should be tite to pull out,
if it comes out easy adj the chain.
have u checked ur pick up coil wires arent broken?
also pull the plugs out and see what they look like.

rhodie,, glad to see you got her home and are looking thru it,, BUT,, as I said on the night on the phone, my bet is electrical,
 when that new cam chain turns up, just hang onto it, isn,t the one in it a new one from when you rebuilt it?

oil is supposed to dark, if not change it,, the oil takes the impurities out of the motor, the oil sitting around the cam lobes doesn,t look out of wak,  is the oil going dark or is it burnt,, have a sniff, you;ll know, they didn't make these with temp gauges or lights unfortunately

Righto Fellas,

This is the scenario....no obvious damage in bores, can still see honing marks. Number 3 has strange "shot gun" type shiney spots with brown stripes. The surgery tool didn't pick up anything when using the magnet. That's an awesome invention by the way....makes me think that's why guys become gynaencologists!!

So.....nuffink appeared in the trasfusion...I will now wait until new cam chain arrives and see what the outcome is!!!

rhodie your intermittent misfire sounds electrical. check your wires from the pick up coils arent beginning to fatigue and break.
Cant explain the top end rattle? but I imagine your all over timing chain tension and v/v clearances

dunno how others do it but I have the post reply page open and my imageshack page open at the same time.
1st I get the insert image thing on the post reply and put in the message.
 then go over to imageshack get the picture I want and just next to it will be a thing with "direct link'
 click on that so it is high lighted then right click to copy
now go back to your message
put you cursor exactly in the middle of where you put insert image and paste.
hit the preview button to see if it worked

Yea mate she started to mis fire intermittently and was vibrating big time. She also seemed to have this serious top end rattle??? Got worried and pulled the pin.

How does one load the photies then from image shack??? This computer sh1t is beyond me mate!!!

Righto Fellas,

Have been doing some investigating (a le Inspector Clueseux).

Removed all four pace makers...look good (see photo) ...
Carried out lung test.. 1 to 4: 10.5bar:- 9.25 bar:- 9.4 bar:- 10.5 bar:- Seems all good to me...
Removed lid and checked for visual problems ...nuffink...(see photo).... Swung her over a couple of times...lube all good...
She did use approx 1 litre and oild went dark after 1300 k's...she's never done that....(see photo)..

Will give her a transfusion today and see if anything turns up in the pan. Then maybe another tune up and a small ride.

My mechanic neighbour is going to bring his spy-cam around to check out the bores...exciting hey!!! Real surgery!!!
