I like what you've done. Looks miles better than when you got it.

The slick back end makes it looks quite a bit more sporty. Well done.

Hi people, I have recently got my bike blue slipped and registered after about a year of it being in the garage. It has come a long way since i bought it and i still want to do more work to it aesthetically, mechanically it is running really well very smooth.

After a in the garage it wouldnt start, so i had to take the carbys out and tank and give them a well cleaning with the air compressor and carb cleaner. I had to rebuild the rear brake master cylinder as well because it was leaking. I also put in new plugs, new oils, filters, new battery, inflate tyres, carb tune. After all that it was good as new passed the blue slip no worries.

Aesthetically over the time i have had cleaned it up, taken a HEAP of rust off it, I put a cafe racer style 'Ace Bar', new front headlight and brackets, custom rear with cat eye tail lamp, smaller indicators (wiring was bit confusing beacuse of the standard glowing light set up) and heat proofed headers and probably more stuff i cant remember.

I am going to try and post some pictures up, plz bear with me :) ...

if THAT machine is uncomfortable, maybe you need to wind the back shocks off and strip/clean forks and new oil in them,,,the sore back quite often is your kidneys bouncing round inside,,, or sitting possie,, with me though, possie give me sore shoulders/neck

heres a picture of it when i first bought it

Yea I've decided to go in the Cafe racer direction, and ill keep the stock parts in case i want to go back to original.

Started with some clubman bars and new grips last weekend. I must say dam its uncomfortable, feel like i need a back brace to ride it. Getting used to it now its not so bad but first ride it strange.

Have a look at Google images for XS1100 cafe racers. I haven't seen one that blew my socks off. The cast wheels and the shaft drive don't fit so well with the cafe racer look.

me neither, most attemps look like rat bikes, but i have a vision in mind for mine should be alright.

Hey MF, welcome aboard.

Hang off on any major mods for 12 months IMHO. In that time you'll get to know the bike better and it's looks will definitely grow on you.

Mine is a later model and has a round headlamp and clocks. When I bought it I thouht it looked miles better than the older models like yours. However, once I got to know the bike better I really started to appreciate the quite uniqu style of the older square headlamp model.

2 years on I know what will be the second bike in my shed ..... a standard XS11 for sure.

Have a look at Google images for XS1100 cafe racers. I haven't seen one that blew my socks off. The cast wheels and the shaft drive don't fit so well with the cafe racer look.

Get those pics up. We all like XS porn on here.  ;D

It's always a shame to see an original bike get modified, specially a rare one. But that aside it's yours and it's an inanimate object (not a person) so do what you want....I personally think all standard bikes are made with the intention of the new owner to personalise (eerrmmm Harley's for instance - or race replicas need new pipes and chips). If it makes you happy then that's all that matters, cant preserve them all in out of the crate state hey......Enjoy what ever you decide....and remember....pictures
