It goes up and clamps into the bracket that holds the wiring harness at the top of the airbox
Hope this settles it.

Small pipe facing backwards between midle drive and crankcase breather goes down through the cast in hole at the back of the crankcase and down to just below the engine, both my 78's and the 80 are like this, my engine no is 2h9100716, oh, Wiz my mixture screws are different to yours, sorry....

Enough already.

If you feel like it, cut the bastard off and throw it away

The air cleaner top bracket that bolts to the frame has allowance for a vent tube to be clipped in and faces forward.

Peter, Peter, Peter :-*

I'll compromise with you.

The vent tube comes out of the crankcase just to the right of where the middle drive bolts on to it.
The well formed there for the mating of the middle drive gear to the transmission would act as an overpressure relief chamber and thus vent the middle gear case. ;)

the big hose is the crancase vent, next to it on the left is the
vent for the middle drive.

No its not.

The main crankcase vent is a much larger pipe that come out of the breather cover and yes it does go to the airbox but he is talking about the one that comes up out of the crankcase immediately to the left of the breather cover where the middle geardive joins the crankcase.

theres only 1 crankcase vent, and ur right about it being
a larger diameter and going to the air box,
theres no other vent tube coming from the engine,
i still reckon hes talking about the middle drive vent hose.   lol

It is the crank case vent and goes to the airbox to burn off the fumed from the crankcase. If you use pods you should put on one of those small crankcase filters.

i havent got a 78 to check,
but every other model ive worked on
has the vent and i thought they were all the same,
it needs to vent somehow.
u sure about that fred?

the crankcase vent goes to the top front of the airbox if its fitted,
