ev i used the wirring loom off one of
the rh parts bike so the headlight will turn on
when the ignition is on.

i found the standard tank to make the bike top heavy
in corners compared to the rh
and the standard seat to wide, with the rh seat i can
slide off it in a turn if i want too, tho i think the standard seat
has had some of the foam cut out,
i ended up putting the stock tank and seat back on my rh,
ill use the bigger tank if i go on long trips.

also probably that im more used to riding my bike and the tyres
on the standard arent the best either.

that thingy around the keys i use on my bike as well
have been for years since the key wont stay in the ignition
i just wrap it around the handle bars.

Looking good, Pete. Just curious. Did the headlight work with the engine running? I also see you've got a bit of a lanyard thing happening with the ignition key. Maybe Geoff could do something similar with his?
Also, you know that other than the bigger tank (more fuel) and the wheels (about 3kgs difference), the standard is the same weight as your RH?

heres a cpl of pics of the bike assembled,

runs well, no smoke and burns no oil.

gota admit tho, i prefer the sports to ride
much more nimble and lighter compared to the standard.

I have to take my hat off to you. I had a vise - versa deal with the harness, going from a Special to a Standards. All was straight forward till I got to the instruments, which is why I still have the square guages on mine to match the loom. It'd take a bit of time & patience to sort out all those connectors, mate, more than I've got ATM.

wasnt to bad in the end, got most of it sorted out, most of the wirings are the same
colour, just different plugs, the only thing is the headlight isnt working atm.

The post below may lend an idea as to where they came from...............

Does anyone have any literature on the carbs for the '83 Sukzi GS1100GKD?  I need to know how many turns out the air screw should be set at.  The carbs are Mikuni BS34SS.  any help would be appreciated.  Thanks, Chris

hey jonesy,
im not knocking the pick up coil repair in general,  its a neccesity if there broken,
just the way they went about doing it (notice how thick the wire is) as well as butchering the whole harness, that linkage near number 2 is for a cable to operate the choke, funny thing is
it also has the choke lever on the side of the carbs like the stock ones do.

got the rh harness fitted and all the wiring works except the headlight,
next is to remove the valve cover and check the gaps and making sure the
cams are timed correctly, after that fitting my old carbs and a set of coils and
she'll be ready to fire up.

Those carbies.....Not off a "G" either, and if not off an "E" you might be able to assume not an "F" as well.
That linkage looking thingo at No: 2 is something I haven't seen before.

As for the butchering/repair to the pickup coil wires.....guilty as charged I've done that myself. the constant movement of the pick ups fatigues the wires at the bend(s) and eventually brakes the wires. Much the same as when you bend a piece of wire back and forth till it brakes

On the topic of the carbs........they don t look like an "E"model......the mixture screws gives that away,so your further up the track on those....there should be a BS34-11......or..... BS34 -111 stamped somewhere on them

hey chris,
yep its a 3x1, both motor and frame.

hey jeff,
i was a little impatient i guess, just wanted to get the tank started, ive never done electolysis before and got the ideas of what to do on the .com site.
im going to use this one after the electrolysis and a paint on the rh, im pretty lucky so far the parts that ive needed ive had so far from the parts bike, spent a bit of time putting a rh loom on it, most seems to be the same except the pilot lights and some wiring differences in he tach,
hopefully ill finish the wiring today, want to also check the cam timing all lines up, it my old carbs and hopefully be able to fire her up and hear how it runs.

Hi Pete , great pics of your new sweetheart....and looking forward to more resto stories and pics as the stripdown and rebuild progresses. It s going to be a long and hopefully not too expensive love affair .Would of liked to have seen the before and after results of the tank torture technique.........do you plan on relining the tank once done or is it not that bad?
For those of you thinking Pete is trying to get some answers out of the tank on its past owners , via electro torture , here s  a link on what he s up to and how to do it................

Keep up the good work Pete...
