Yeah i tend to agree that the rollers are what runs on the guides but you never know, i've got spare guides but don't want to wear them out, part no. is 219Hx128

I agree with Ev
As long as the pitch and width are right......these are the essential ingredients to a chain and sprocket pairing
The cam chain tensioner and guides are sacraficial wear items anyway.
If the pitch etc are right, install it and keep your eye out for replacement guides and tensioner......always good to have spares on the shelf for these ol girls.
Been a while since I looked at the chain guides closely but if you got yours apart, just check, and you might find that the chain rollers are what runs on the tensioner and guide and the side plates/links are only (as the name suggests) used to guide the chain.

If I'm wrong its not the first time today.

Any chance of a photo of the offending item, Max? The only camchains I've put in my bike have had the straight side plates. I suppose it depends though on how curved the outside edges are on the plates, as even the straight ones run in grooves in the tensioners.

Here's a question for anyone who knows, I bought a cam chain off e-bay a while back but it has peanut shaped side plates, when i took it to my local bike shop to get it broken and get a joining link for it because it didn't come with one! i was told it was not for an 1100 yam because it should have straight side plates, he recons that it will wear the chain guides out! any advice??
