ouch
$1650 thats a lot for a exhaust system,

theres another called the cambell X pipe exhaust for around
$800 from memory, that was a really nice set up tho the
exhaust has to be removed to change the filter
ill see if i can find a link for it.

I wonder,,

how do they sound,,

meaning spending that sort of dollars and ending up with sound thats not what was expected

it's not like you can send em back

looking at them, they should cut a lot out which is what I'm looking for,, a slight growl, but mainly the whine of the gearing

don't want any thing "tinnie" ,,

Hi Stout. He makes them to suit either the Standard or Special XS's. The Special versions will bolt straight onto an RH................
but......................
They were priced at 890 euros ($1210 AU) as at April 2010, so they're not cheap, plus there's shipping on top of that.
Look at the quality, though. If you're looking to keep your bike, it's certainly worth thinking about.

Wow. They look good. Can anybody see any reason they wouldn't fit an XS1100RH?

I didn't see a price, but am concerned that any fair price for that kind of quality work, after the DM/Euro/$A exchange rate plus postage for such a heavy / bulky item, might cause them to be a bit cost-prohibitive landed here.

There's a german guy, Heinz Weys, who makes repro exhausts for the XS1100 Standard and Specials.

More info and pics are on the XS 1100 Freunde Rhein/Waal club website under 'XS-Shop' then click on the pic of exhausts.

Absolutely no problem.

Not much of an engineer, so might be something to do at a get together. Take the pipes off and get every measurement going.

Since everybody seems to accept the original systems were nigh on unbeatable for these bikes, why is there no effort to repro them?

I've never seen a set - would they really be that hard to copy? (pipe diameters, lengths, basic silencer configuration, etc...)

I accept that there is generally insufficient return on investment to make exhaust systems, but I think in this case I'd be prepared to make an exception...

Melbxs - would you be prepared to measure them up and post dimensions with a few photos of junctions, etc?

Overall they are in pretty good shape. The chrome is not perfect and bits of the baffles roll around inside the pipes, but considering their age they are really quite good.

Had to have a welder do a bit of delicate welding on the 30 yr old exhausts today. He did a cracking job in patching it up around the balance pipe where a large fracture had appeared.

Hopefully get another 3 decades out of them.  :D

His name is Phil and he owns

http://www.steelwise.com.au/

Really nice bloke and very reasonably priced.
