Don't worry I will  :D
Just a few little things to do today.

I have a spare set of wheels so the bike won't be off the road.

Finally  ;D

Have the girl back together.
Picked up the chrome bits today and she's all back together.

They don't give you too much space in the headlight for all the connectors. Had to really fiddle around to place them all away safe.

I polished the front guard up as well so the front end looks good, only have to adjust the headlamp.

Will redo some accessory wiring for the spotlights tomorrow.

Pics to come tomorrow.

Now I have to do something with the wheels, next project.
I have a spare set that I'll change the bearings on, then get them powdercoated.

Yippee.

The tapered needle type are actually the better sort for swingarms but yeah you're looking at big milage for either type to get notchy on ya

Swingarm bearings are the tapered needle type,  roller bearings would soon get notchy from the pounding,  Steps they must have knocked out the tapered races to bung in flat roller bearings on yours

Thanks for the info gents.
I'd tend to suggest that the front wheel bearings will need replacing for sure.

The steering head bearings are perfect; there was no play in the front end and had nice smooth motion on them.

I wanted to paint the triple tree so it was a good excuse to take it apart and check and repack  the bearings.

Haven’t done any maintenance on the rear end yet, the swing arm is on the list of things to do.

Cheers

checked mine about 6 mths ago,, mine are encased roller bearings, that the turned down end of the swing arm bolt seats into, and centre the swing arm by doing one bolt up and undoing the other

that's not to say yours aren't different,, should be the same though  :-X

:-\ unless mine aren't original and were replaced by the po at less than 10 yr old,
in which case, mine are now at least 18yr old, and over 100 000klm  8)

geoff,
from memory i think there a tapered bearing
with an outer seal,
similar to a wheel bearing.

yep , there you go Pete,, another job when Ken has time,,

swing arm bearings Ken,, like riding on a flat tyre if worn,, easy to check, take the wheel and shocks off, and check for movement sideways, and "notchyness" up and down,,

should be alright though,, double sided sealed, in behind the caps and seals out of the grit and grime mostly,, won't hurt to check

mine are still originals

lol  i should of picked that up also geoff,
those steering bearings as well as the swing arm bearings
tend to wear as they dnt fully rotate around like a wheel bearing does.

same will go for the steering head bearings,,
if they're dry, you'll find when you pre load them when doing them back up and turn the handle bars, it will feel like there is a small cam lobe in there,{even after cleaning and regreasing}, best to throw them away also,  :'( sorry

Stripped the front end of the bike today.
Some parts are going to the Chromer on Monday ie the headlight mounts.

I'll be attacking the forks with some polishing compound.
The steering head tapered roller bearings were a bit dry and the triple tree needs some de-rusting and painting.

The wheel bearings are a bit "notchy" so I might clean them up and have a good inspection.

Took about 11/2 all up, so easy to work on, love it.
