Sump removal

ummm, it won,t be "gasket goo bits",, that stuff is like "loctite" 515 master gasket,, doesn't solidify in the motor,

what you'll have is bits of silastic sealant,, all that crap is good for is sealing exhausts,

if in doubt,, pull it off and check,, even if you've got to take the pipes off,

although the oil pick up gauze is pretty good at protecting the motor

I spose the other thing you could do is use something, maybe a paddle pop stick split in half,, poke in the sump drain hole and wipe side to side and pull out and see what's on the stick, before taking sump off if you want,

might give an indication of what's on the bottom of the sump

Really easy to remove sump. Depends on what exhaust system you have, might have to take that off. Once exhaust is removed, just remove the sump. Good idea to check (from personal experience) if oil is shitty, it can save you a rebuild down the track. While you are there, check the oil pump as well. Easy to get out and all.

I'll drop the sump some time in the future.
The oil and filter were fairly "yuck", the oil had some gasket goo bits in it.

Just going to use the "new oil" as a flush and change it out in a few hundred Kms.

hi ken,
if the oil looks pretty clean,
the oil light goes out fairly quickly when you start it,
it might be not worth your while pulling the sump off,
always the risks of leaks when reassembling and as they say
if it aint broke.

Pretty sure you can just drop off the exhaust and it falls out the bottom on the Standards

Is it possible to remove the sump without taking out the engine.
Just to drop it from under the bike ??

I saw Rhodie55's  post re the stuff in his sump.
