hiya everybody, 8)  when we put these up on our uk site we called them japanese as well but tom told us that they were in fact swedish in origin . but this isnt a new concept  is it ?. the american indian scout and the early harley sidevalves were both used to pull cars in for service and return cars to owners  homes .   respect spanner uk .   8)  .

When I was in Europe and UK you are expected to filter and I think you will find that the difference here between lane splitting and filtering is that the traffic is not moving and you don't pass on the left of a gutter car or the right of a car in the middle line lane.
Lane splitting is shooting through moving traffic.

It's the same thing, isn't it Xtian? You or I would cop a canary if caught doing it, but they're the law and they're exempt from normal traffic rules.

They're car recovery units in Japan

The idea is that they can filter (lane split) through the traffic to the scene of a breakdown and deploy the trailer and drag the car out of the way so traffic can resume normal carnage.

Here they are. Not quite as bit as I remembered from the video, but still impressive stuff.

The thick silver cable / line looping up near the towbar could be a clue about the brake activation.

didn't really notice, but wouldn't it have to have an over ride braking system installed ?? or no

hiya bros  8)  the only thing we was talking about this tow bike was. its ok on the flat but it would need a very torquey motor to pull a heavy car up hill and bloody good brakes going down hill :o we thought that with a heavy car on a good down hill ya might get a bad case of brake fade and brown trousers  ;D ;D respect spanner uk . 8)   .

Just wondering how that could be legal in Australia as the maximum width of a motorcycle towed trailer is only allowed to be 1 metre. Had played with the idea of using the keg as a bike recovery trailer with a couple of my old Redcliffe Ulysses buddies. The bodywork comes off with 9 bolts and we put an L shaped channel on the drawbar to lock the front wheel in, and another out the rear down as low as we could then loaded up a Virago 1100 on it to give it a try.
The trailer took the load ok (underrated at 400kg) and the bike pulled it easily to 100 k's but it felt a bit vague and i was really worried about it toppling over if it hit a pothole or similar as it seemed a bit top heavy. Was going to make up a wider axle for it but a look at the regs blew that plan. Would've been ok for lighter type bikes but everyone had big'uns down there.
BTW. My Xs with the full fairing, rack, topbox, panniers, towbar & pillion footboards with heavy duty mounts/ towbar anchor points weighed in at 324kgs with a full tank of fuel (yes, I weighed it)
