Ok im sure this gas been asked befor but im wondering what octane fuel is best for out older beasts ? I was having a real issue with fuel pinging on my1994 BMWR1100R ,I thought I was doing the right thing buy only running 98 octane but after talking to my mechanic he said to drop it to 91 and bingo 90%of the pinging is gone. After researching I found out lower octane fule burns hotter hence why they use avegas in racing engines to hp it run cooler at high loads . I have Been switching fuels on the xs to see what works best I find the exhaust is more sootywith 91 but no real difference apart from that , I'd love to k ow what people are using and what is recommended for the xs1100.  Stay safe stay upright.
