Awesome, thanks makzy. Got the barrels off this arvo, everything is intact, still got cross hatching hone marks in the cylinders. But the rings might be worn out, as well as big ends, little ends and crank bearings, everything is very "loose" + end float on the crank, not measured, but feels like 1/2 a mm?

Sounds possibly broken rings, spray some Beatles piss down the barrel studs and leave for a few days repeating often, ya carbs are on their way, I have a wiseco 1170 kit if you need it 👌

 :'( long face  :'(
Rode home yesterday accompanied by a clak clak noise under load/acceleration and followed by a plume of smoke, reminiscent of Christians bike limping to the innagral Bourke rally. Pulled the head off last night, no holed pistons but they were wet with oil. Barrels are resisting removal.......

What is the actual capactity of the tank. ( seeing as I dont have old 00337 anymore. .. or the manual..) Is it 24 litres. and what is the reserve range?.Think once I ran out of motion lotion maybe 2 years back on reserve--- just as I almost got to the pump....I thought reserve held  more..... obviously not. bugger. That was where all the carby problems started. It ran like a bucket of shit for a long time after that.

Do you mean "your" other bikes or others in general (xtian with a 750 final)
Your other bikes are pretty much standard ?
I seem to remember my old xs which was very standard with 4 to 1 , 200k on the engine , highway riding ie speed limits sydney to brisbane via putty and new england would give me about 320km to reserve.
Current h with big bore , 4to 1, loaded and riding with paul I get around 250 km to reserve and last time I checked 297 km to dead empty.
The g is giving about the same at around 250 km but thats pretty fast riding.
I generally only use 95 maybe 98 but nothing else.

The other bikes get around 320 - 340 km to reserve on sidestand fills with 91ron fuel
Obviously riding styles are the same, town riding is about 1 or 2% due to living out of town in rural nsw

Hey Jonesy....one thing I noticed changing from a 4 into 1 and back to the standard exhaust system was the improvement of fuel economy.
Partly because of the way I revved out to hear that 4 into 1 bark and crackle back.
Also if there is any around town riding...such as I reported leaving Melbourne for the meet up...this also affected economy.
Do you have the original size jets in the carbs....what is the plug color like....aside from the plug chop- you did at Welly.
What type of air filter and how old is it?
You did say that it was a side stand fill up as well....so I don t think 256 is all that bad.
I would imagine you would get another 30 or so kms to empty ...so if you did a centre stand fill with another 1.5 litres of so...your in the ball park.
What do your other bikes get per tank?
