Hi Mick , a rule of thumb when fault finding is to break the issue down into sections you can prove or disprove as being ok.
Aside from your brief description of the issue it would help if you could advise what you have done regarding the battery test to prove it s ok .
It is sometimes difficult if your not able to test with a multimeter or have little experience in what to observe  .
Here s a start.....the 2 conditions you state are hot and cold .
The first test is to break the problem in half...ie.....
1) Prove the start/kill switch cct is ok....
When the fault occurs.....
Do you hear a clicking sound at the starter solenoid located behind the right side cover?
No clicking would indicate you have an issue with the start/kill cct or solenoid.
2) Prove the starter motor is ok when the fault occurs.
If you hear a clicking at the solenoid ...have the ignition on and place a screwdrivers shaft across the 2 large terminals ( there may be a spark or two) and see if the starter engages.
If it does your starter is probably ok and no need to remove it from the bike.
When we talk "cold" or " hot" in electrical terms this related to either off or on and faulty contacts/connectors ...... or being in proximity to radiant heat ...ie from the engine.
1) Off or On ....the fuse for the ignition cct . Do you have the original fuse box with the glass fuses. If so remove the fuse and see if the end caps are loose ...replace with a known good one if available. With the fuse removed ...squeeze the tangs that grip the fuse and see if they are still springy or the metal has gone off .If these tangs don t have a firm springy grip they will heat up and expand resulting in voltage drop.
There are many other items to check...but this will get you started.

Go thru all earth connections and make sure their all nice and clean, could and emphasise, could be the starter on the way out but not likely as I’ve not heard of them failing, starter moters can do things like that when the insulation starts to break down on the armiture, have you checked the voltage of the battery when hot? Just thinking.

sounds like bad earth connection, pull starter and check brushes, then clean,
check brush plate has good earth to body of starter and starter to engine.

Sounds like thermal  growth causing a bad connection somewhere, one of the electrical gurus should be along soon and might have some suggestions where to look.

When the bike is hot and I turn it off and try to start it the starter struggles to turn the motor over and won’t start I f I leave it for about 10 minutes it will start I have had the battery checked and it is good. Any ideas what could be the problem is Thanks Micheal
