Been running Bridgestone Spitfires virtually since I got this bike. Averaging solo 20,000k's front & rear with very good grip plus audible warning (low pitched howling) that you're getting near the limit. With trailer & pillion aboard. rear dropped to about 16,000k's but front remained about the same. Good all round tyres with pretty good wet weather capabilities at a very good price. Last pair I bought cost $210 the pair fitted and balanced from MTM Motorcycles Brisbane.
Note: rear is 16" in my case.

Guys,

I've been running Avon Roadrunners for ever and a day on both my xs1100 and my FLH shovelhead and I would recommend them wholeheartedly for these very heavy cruising bikes.
Good grip and extremely good milage.

You have to remember that the better the grip, the lower the milage will be so you have to make compromises one way or the other.

15k - 18k is the norm for a rear tyre and I find that I'm changing the front well after that as it starts to harden up and lose grip in the rough (read Vic Roads trash) before it's worn out.

I have tried others such as metzlers but always go back to the Avons.

the Pirelli Sport Demon I highly recommend....these tyres have been compounded using modern materials to suit our antique machines - road holding is great in the wet and dry - I have used several sets of these
ATM I am running Metzeler Lasertec - these were fitted as the Pirelli tyres were unavailable - I have used them at a track day without a slip -
I cant speak to mileage tho - I just haven't paid attention -

I m looking to buy some new tyres soon and hope anyone out there has some good info on brand, costs and road handling qualities and approx kms they have got from the rear tyre . Im assuming all models of xs1100 run the same rims as my 78E 110/90 X19 FRONT AND 120 OR 130/90 X 17 REAR. :o
