Don't stress about valve seals unless you need to open it up for something else or it is smoking on start up.
As Jeff said DO keep a constant check on oil level

If valve stem seals are going off........you may see a little puff of smoke out the exhaust on start after sitting overnight.....possibly on gear changes if going somewhere in a hurry..also may smell a little oily.

Motor sounds OK and up to now sounds well and runs/starts well carbs recently refurbished. I'll take your advice on oil usage. Any other way of checking the serviceability of the valve stem seals? Apparently 84,000k's was recently on VJMC club plates until I bought it. Blue slipped in NSW and am waiting on my YAM81 plates to arrive, a bit naff but I love it. I'll try and check the owners based on engine/frame numbers which match (I'm assured this is a good thing!).

As a new owner ......may I suggest you keep an eye on oil consumption especially on long day rides.
The valve stem seals are often an oil usage culprit.
Any info on motor condition ....original miles...how many owners etc?

Some minor stuff up to now. Front brake light switch, new tyres and battery. It has replaced a 1975 Mini Clubman money pit, it would go hard to compete with that!

Always wanted one of these and now have it. This was taken up the Putty Rd. A good morning out last Sunday building my confidence again after more than 30 years not riding.
