No V8s here, trying to slow down, not go faster. Pretty sure 300K is not going to come up on the XS like it can on the ZX12R.
Here's a pic ;D

Had been down the road before I got her.

Is for sale if anyone is interested.

Hi Les. There was a bit of discussion on what other bikes have an equivalent light - CLICK

I'm still looking along the lines of maybe a truck headlight that may fit, as round headlights seem to be out of vogue in the car industry these days.

Thanks for the welcome.

I think I have done OK as far as a resto candidate goes. All seems to be straight and I think I have all of the parts and then some.

I seem to have:
2 blocks, 2 heads, 2 sets of valves, 4 timing chain tensioners
2 sets of shocks, 2 sets of carbs, s sets of wheels
2 front fainings (complets), 2 seats (both stuffed)
3 sets of calipers, 2 air boxes, 2 front guards
2 tanks, 4 tank lids, 3 pairs of stopcocks

Plus all of the other bits I haven't identified yet.

I plan to try and do a faithful restoration to factory look as far as possible and intend to keep it to ride. The value of the XS doesn't seem to have increased like the Kawa Z's have. Thats why I bought the XS, couldnt afford a wrecked Z.

Going to strip down the bike this weekend, will take some photos and post up.

The one think I know I need is a new headlight lens. The one I have is smashed. Does anyone know of a locally available equivalent. Are the ones off the other XS models the same?

Hi Les and welcome to the clan. That's a great pickup for what you must have paid for it. There's lots of very helpful people online here, so any questions, fire away and someone will sort you out. I see you got a Clymer manual with the bike. That's ok for the basics, but the RH differs slightly in specification in quite a few areas. Some of them are quite critical so have a read of these couple of threads which will help get you on the right track.
RH Specification Manual Supplement - CLICK
XS Part Number Finder RH - CLICK

The part Number Finder also links to a series of exploded diagrams which often come in handy, particularly if you're putting something together that you haven't seen together, as in your case.
Enjoy your ressurrection and we look forward to seeing pics as it unfolds.

Hi All

Quick post to say hello. I just bought an 81 XS1100 from a guy in Armidale as a project. It was posted on ebay, but after it passed in, he accepted an offer ;D and I drove down last weekend to pick it up.

Had a great drive down and the bike was pretty much as I expected. Added bonus was picking about 10Kg of blackberries from the side of the road. Yummo

Previously I have done up 3 Kawasaki sport bikes (ZXR750, ZX9R and ZX12R). The 12R is currently for sale. Time to slow down a bit as the 12R was just getting silly.

The XS1100 will be my first full nut and bolt restoration and because I didn't disassemble the bike, I am a bit worried about how to put it back together, so I am sure I will have lots of stupid questions.

Anyway, cheers

Les
