Haven't had a chance to do anything except put new tyres on the rims, that still aren't on the bike as I'm away until Friday,
so I  really only have next weekend to put on the wheels and try to sort out the back off issue, I'll let you know. BTW do you use the same Molly grease in the rear wheel as if you were doing a spline lube?

Cheers

I had the same problem on the standard many years ago.

My limited fix was to bolt a "lever" on to throttle assemby and when the idle went through the roof I would just manually push the throttle lever back to the idle position.

So agreeing with PGNZ it sounds very similar to the sticking throttle linkage.

I originally changed the itake manifolds with the problem still there afterwoods.  I then took the carbs off and gave them a thorough clean and blow through.  That fixed the problem.

Hope this helps

leaky CV diaphragms don't race the idle they just make the engine run crap,  holes in diaphragms are simple to check for anyway.  intermittent racing idle is always simple case of throttle/cable/linkage sticking for whatever reason..

Took the bike for a 200 K (one Tank) blast yesterday and all seemed O.K. I ran for about 20Ks on reserve and when I pulled into the servo, the bike was idling at 2,500rpm, I filled the bike and took it for another ride and I could tell at backoff that it wasn't slowing down and again it was idling  at 2,500rpm, when I got into the driveway at home, I got some Aerostart and sprayed it around between the carbs and inlet manifolds (while it was idling normally) with no change. If the diaphragms were leaking would this be a symptom?

Cheers
