Trouble with vintage rego is that you have to ring and register when you are going on the road and when you come back in, how many ks were done etc etc.
If you go out more than seems reasonable you are in trouble.
Just join Ulysses and get a better rate, I will get back later when I get home with some details

Hi Melbxs, great work, you should be very proud.
Regarding Insurance I inquired with Shannons, where I have my ZX10 insured with & they quoted me $248.00 CTP (for $3K cover), and will offer a $50.00 rebate on insurance for my Kwaka. I've been with Shannons for years and have home & contents insurance as well. When I did my homework (it was a few years ago so things may have changed mind you) it worked out better for me to wrap everything up with 1 insurer because of the discounts they had on offer. Rego for the Kwaka is approx $550 a year, so expect the XS to be the same. I've heard whispers that there could be a "Vintage Bike" rego coming out which will have conditions & limitations will but be as cheap as Recreational Rego for dirt bikes (Last time i had a rec rego'd bike it was $65.00 a year). The guys on the VJMC website made mention of it but don't know if it's gone any further.

I was going to join Ulysees anyhoo - just so I have an excuse to go for a ride. I might talk to the local convener to see if they have any similar arrangements.

The insurance wanted $653 for the CTP and the RTA $99 for rego

BUT being in Ulysses I got onto the Ulysses club member who does CTP and got it for $328 and through Alliance, the same company that said $653.

I haven't had the bike out for a spin with the new setup. I was thinking i should do the right thing and wait till it's all legal.

What's the rego cost alone for a litre plus bike over there in Aus these days?  Bastards are socking it to bikes down here now,  looking at doubling or tripling the already rip-off costs,  too many young-ass squids crashing and burning,  gives the greedy money clutching pen-pushers in power an excuse to bump up regos to whatever they feel like charging, based on trumped-up phony unsubstantiated figures and statistics,  motorcyling is getting priced off the road

Mel,  eye candy it is.    Whaddya think of the emulators  & XJR shocks combo?  Shocks clear the caliper OK?   Haven't really given my setup a long run yet,  bikes still not quite road ready,  just been round the block and stuff,  but the handling feels bloody awesome already

'81 RH.

Here it is when I got it.

It's had -

new coils
tyres
brake lines
brake overhaul and new pistons
lots of paint
replacement shockies (XJR1300)
carb clean
removed the emissions control feedback system from the airbox
YSS valve emulators in the forks

etc, etc

And here it is today - 2 yrs later ....

Heatshield is missing from exhaust because I need to get a couple of stainless capscrews for it.

I need to find a grand for rego and insurance now. Feck knows where that will come from  ???

I Hope you like it.
