As far as exhaust systems go I am trying to contact a bloke in Victoria (I think) who can make up any exhaust you want, I am going to try and see if he can make up a set for my RH.

Thanks for the advise.
But after looking at the list and then checking the bike. Rear brakes need a rebuild, new tires, tank petcocks kit etc etc.
So complete tear down and rebuild.  Brought a spare off E-bay eight years ago for backup. Not such a good buy. Too many parts missing.

Help required with the header pipes, the collector box ( hope thats right) has rusted through. Can they be repaired?? they came with staintune mufflers.  Cost of replacement seems a little excessive, posts on the XS forum USA has a company in Germany selling complete exhaust systems for $1100 US.

Could be cheap and nasty and just run straight pipes with ear plugs.
So here goes wish me luck.

The effort in getting an XS1100 back on the road is BIG grin material :P :P :P
I'm about to pack up an engine that has sat for 27 years and send it to Mal Pitman (Malpit) for a rebirthing

And there are plenty of hints and help on this site and the UK site

Hi Lumox

There's an extensive list of tasks doumented on the UK site for you ....
http://www.benefiscal.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=4659.0

At the very least I would:

1.flush the tank to make sure there isn't anything to foul the carbs
2. Put inline fuel filters in the fuel lines
3. Check that the petcocks (fuel taps) don't leak because the seals will probably have gone in the 12 yrs.

4. change the engine oil, the middle gear oil and the final drive oil
5. Buy a new battery
6. spray a little bit of oil down each plug hole to help lube the piston rings at least 24 hours before you even try to turn her over
7. Turn the engine over by hand or foot long before you turn it over on the starter
8. Fit new plugs
10. check all the slides move up and down ok on the carbs before you even try to start her

Peruse that list and you should get a good idea of the tasks that lie ahead. I did 90% of that list and the bike runs like a dream now. It was as rough as guts before I started doing those things.

Finally have the kids off my hands and about to restore my XS1100E which I have had for 14 years.
Have not started the beast for over 12 years. So the big question is??? what do I do prior to hitting the starter switch as I don't want to damage anything.

Also the gas tanks has been empty for 10 years. I know should have cranked the beast over from time to time.

Any help would be appropriated. :o
