Whats a balance resistor ?...................never heard of a bakelite box over the coils either....unless your looking at the tip over switch...or...headlight relay.
Could it be the ballast resistor your looking for?.....should be mounted to the frame just under the left hand front side of the fuel tank..unless other people have moved it....a relatively long ..chrome covered device with a 2 wire connection.

cured :D
it wasn't as truamaic as I thought  i retaced my steps  bla bla

gotta love 30 year old wiring looms and connectors it was the case of a light blue wire moving out of place just enough so as not connect in the clip
monster is now purring like a kitten  and sounds  sweet  test ride later :P

adendem.....     found the balance resistor    I was looking for the wrong type  ie  a silvery bar with 2 connectors
it turned out  i looked over a diagram for and found said resistor is a bakalite box  that sits over the coils towards the battery   had to open it up to make sure

ok after a few hours fiddling about   I've installed the dyno tec coils  i followed the illistrated instructions thanks bryan
it was fairly easy , checked and rechecked every connection  i made or had to disconnect made the final ajustments then fired her up
souned quiet sweet  then  i put the tank  back on  got it all together  went to firer her up again   nuffin  :(    off came the tank again to check i havn't dislodged any thing   checked connections fuses  not a thing   fiddled with the kill switch all im gettin was a click click
so i jumped it through the soleniod   fired up  but was popping and didn t sound good
I've run out of options as to where to look for the foult

the coils i removed looked like they had been replaced at some stage
and couldn't find the balance resistor any where

so feel free to chime in with any help

they have landed well yesterday arvo   opened my parcel   and spied  1 Z ents sticker    4/5 hp increase
marveled at the 7mm lines   didn t like the plug caps so they're to be replaced with nkg's   i do like the way the leads plug into the coil body  so ive just got to measure the bits to make the brakets to face them down    lol and ive found anther dynotec sticker  + 7 hp
and im rereadding the  appropiate link to  fitting them up ive worked out the wiring  after fitting il  give you all the results :P

Hi nozila
Unless you've got standard  crook leads arcing out and coils generally packed it in. I didn't think you'll notice any difference between a good set of working original coils and new dyna coils. After all a spark is a spark is a spark that makes your motor go round.
just my opinion anyway

I replaced mine because leads were rooted and arcing to the valve cover so I noticed a difference because it wasn't missing anymore.

Hey John

I was monitoring my fuel usage most of the time as I was keen to see how it was after the re-build.  I was averaging 14.3 kms/lt or 7 lts per 100kms depending on which way you prefer it.  If you are really old school I was getting 42 mpg.

Cheers
Thanks for that. I was close to that but only after I stopped riding with BRYAN he is a bad influence :-[

These old girls arent kind are they. Cruising through Tassie at around 90-100 K my Subaru Outback's computer told me I was averaging 7 to 7.4 l/100.
