Just finished painting my engine using VHT Statin Black Case Paint, then used  with VHT Barrel Paint for the Barrels..  Problem is until you cure the paint it is very easy to chip. Then finished off with VHT clear engine enamel.

I guess time will tell.
I've been riding Yamahas since 1976. Only other bike was a Honda CB900F 1978.
last bike ridden XS1100RH 83 1995 sold the bike to fund an O/S trip. Have a XS1100E for 12 yrs and ready to restore.

Hi
That's what I used on my engine, I seemed to get a funny finish out of one can, as the instructions say I think 2 fine and then 1 wet 10 mins apart. I used some heat lights to help but you really need an oven or to run the engine to build up heat and slowly  let it cure the side covers and small parts I put in the  oven at half the temp  they said  ( make sure the wife is out you need to clean and air the oven when finished). It still seemed to be smell like it was curing when I got to Bourke According to Errol..

I guess I'll have to find out now as I never thought to ask for specifics, Mal said it was Satin Black and that was good enough for me.

Cheers

PS glad to see you both made it home safe Geoff

Yep the VHT satin is a real good much, but don't make the mistake I did and paint straight onto a soda blasted motor. It doesn't stick too well unless you wash it down with soapy water first

Hi Benno. There's been a bit of discussion about this in the past - CLICK
A couple of options mentioned here, but easiest one is the VHT Satin Black, which is a nearly perfect match for the original black.
Big bonus is that it comes in a can, so no mixing required.
The Search button is our best tool on here. Just click on it and type in "Engine paint"
It'll then provide a list of posts where it's been mentioned.

Does any one know what type of paint is used on the motors, eg paint code. The paint on mine has degenerated over 32 years (not surprising) and I want to paint it and have it look original, not a jet black glossy motor.
