Recently broached this subject with Fred who was having problems with............ embarassing noises when stopping.
I remembered that my bike from new had a shim installed between the brake piston and backing plate of the disc pad.
Most sales of pads do not include the shim .
The shim acts as a heat shield as well as an anti squeal .
