The place  is called MetalStrip and Powder Coaters. It is about half way around the world from most members so I doubt it would do much good. They are in Red Deer,Alberta, Canada.

Thanks,

Coopz, for a non-runner, it looks like you have scored a nice clean bike to start with. Hope it all goes well for you.

For the bead blasting, I took it to a local metal strip and powder coat place. They have self serve booths that cost a dollar a minute to use. Unfortunate that I do not recall the grit of bead in the one I used. They set you all up and clean everything so it is ready for use. If I recall it only took about 25 minutes to get them completely stripped. I would hate to have to pay the price if I could not have done it in a self serve booth. I know it would have been another 100 bucks or more on top of that to get them to do it.

Paint is:
Suzuki
Z7L
Mars Gold-Met
99-00
19-jul-03
Panel No. 40410 VOC:722.6

Suzuki Z7L
773   Gold Pearl   107.7   107.7
771   Gold Dome   77.7   185.3
794   Metalic Base Coarse   40.3   225.6
726   Lemon Green

I have no idea what all those numbers etc I just wrote mean but that is what is written on the can for paint codes.
I include this in case anyone wanted to know the color I used to try to match the original wheels.

As all of the gold plating was beyond repair as well as the original black chrome coating, I went with paint on all the parts to reduce costs. As you will see I did not stay with black on this bike. It is a frankenbike at best as it has a 79SF motor. I took quite a long break and am just tonight starting re-assembly, because when I put it together before without the frame and engine being painted it looked like dung. So thank you for the compliments on the wheels and here is a pic of some of the other parts done in that same gold as well as the color I chose to have instead of the black chrome. I hope you like it as much as I do.

I have repainted the wheels on mine. You will not get the old stuff off without bead blasting them for sure. It is some tough stuff they put on originally. I found a fairly nice match for paint and they look good but I have yet to ride the bike so I can not say how well the new paint has held up. I will post up a couple of pics for you.

Those wheels don,t look like they need  repainting,, just a bit of good quality  cleaner and a tooth brush,,,

You,ve either already gone over the frame and motor, or is it a good clean specimen any way

It is certainly going to look the goods when finished

Hey Cooper,

Let me know what stock parts you need, I've stripped my bike and parts like the side covers you purchased, I don't need. Although I won't be back for another 2 weeks. Reason being as I'm going to go for minimalistic/stripped down look thus don't require some parts.

Btw nice progress so far. Took myself around 7 hrs to redo my electrics.

Started with electrics. Went from front to rear, replaced some connectors and bits missing. The bike by the way was a non runner to start with. The  electrics have now hopefully been sorted

Previous owner(s) cleaned up the forks or reconditioned them.  There is a slight ding to speedo housing and left bar was bent – that has now been fixed. Locking nut under handlebar was missing. Yamaha price was $52..replaced both with socket head bolts at 10c each.

Ignition advance set up – this was replaced with a new one. Generator looks like new but unsure of status.  Casings were deeply scored but managed to sand and file then polished by hand – it was a thicker alloy that I thought

Previous owner knew very little about bike as it was the previous owner before that started taking bits off etc.  So no idea what has happened to engine internals, if any. Thoughts about taking engine out prior to commencing electrics but will get it running for a correct diagnostic report

Front brake callipers replaced from what appears to be an XJ. New brake lines ordered. Wheels and brakes will be last to be done – has anyone repainted the rims on an RH?

1.   Carbies to come off next for a strip down and noticed 4 drain plugs missing ? Carbies will be painted prior to refixing.  Discs are as new with very little wear. Tyres are Bridgestone Battlax and plenty of life left.  Down the track I will post some more pics with plus and minus progress. Bought two side covers off Flea Bay from the States and both have cracks but I can repair them.  Thank you to whoever told me they were listed when I posted a wanted ad.  Temperature going to be 41 deg on Thurs so much going to happen!

Cheers for now from Coops [I’m going to try and get this bike looking like my son’s who owned one a couple of years back…  he regretted selling it].
