It's cheap insurance,
noticed the seal was half poppwd out the other day, so this'll be in place till I get round to replacing the seal and I put one on 581 too, because its cheap and easy and peace of mind that it wont pop out

Is it a device to be used while working on the bike, or a part replacement for permanent use??

Not a replacement part and it is for permanent use.

To get a scale that round bit is 6mm in diameter.

Hey Jonsey,

My guess is that it is bolted on the RHS Carby and is used to guide the clutch cable.

Eddy

Hey Eddy, I think you are closer to the mark than I was.

Hey Jonesy, it looks to me to be a front brakeline stay that attaches to the front guard and keeps the line in place when threaded through the loop.  ;)

just for fun, and to waste the hours away.  I thought I'd put a pic of this thing that I bent up from a bit of s/s wire for a job on the XS to see if you blokes could work out what its for? I wouldnt be surprised if its already been done before.
