WEEELLLL,, hows this, I,m sitting in Rhodies lounge room having a beer, and having quickly checked his machine, I can tell you the photo,s don,t do  justice,

he came out to the highway and got me to follow him to his place, following him thru town, the shine of the chrome and the sound of the bike was  quite simply a pleasure to watch and hear
and  he has certainly ironed out any bugs that did exist

Great to hear there was nothing seriously wrong with the motor, mate. Those connections can be fiddly damned things at the best of times. Particularly the ones under the tank where the bar switchblocks meet the main loom. All sorts of crud somehow finds its way into them.
We'll see you on the road sometime, eh?

This is well worth a read re: cleaning up all the major contact points in the loom.

Hey Fellas,

Hers's the latest update on my "Bourke Breakdown".... :-[ Thanks Steptoe for phoning to find out how things were going...you probably realised I had already started to celebrate!!! :D

Well, after checking everything..pick up wires etc etc....I mean everything. Checked readings at the plugs for the rectifier and CDI unit....there was no apparent discrepancies. So there was one more thing to do.....fire her up!! Yea....ran absolutely sweet. :-* :-* Did a tune up and went for a ride.....she's perfect fellas! ;D All I did when checking the readings at the various components, was clean all male/female spade connections with an emery board....you know the ones that chicks use on their nails. What a difference...even the sight bounce in the rpm meter is gone. (Which makes sense 'coz that is wired through the CDI unit)!! 8) ;)

Have been riding her to work every day this week without a miss of a beat....just purring!!! Big learning curve...yea!! :D :D

Thanks for all the suggestions... cheers, Rhodie. :P :P

Fellas, just an update as these problems are generally sorted by a process of ellimination!!! Checked the primary and secondary windings of the coils...seem to be ok although one had slightly lower reading in the primary. Will get onto the other suggestions as soon as. thanks for the offer there Melbxs...might take you up on that just to make sure.

Will keep you fellas posted. Jonesy, when do you want the oil filter housing??

Cheers.

sounds like a solder crack prob or along the lines of,,

1st thing I,d be doing is "the old pull of the pick-up wires trick"  as shown here

if that,s not the problem, pull the TCI cap off and check for solder problems at the base of the plug pins,
check those 2 and get back to us

Hey rhodiie
A couple of things come to mind, 1 is the wires at the pickup coil (not sure if we already went through this one), an intermittent brake in one of the wires could be developing/developed?
2 is to undo a couple of the screws on the TCI cover and see if any of the tracks are burnt, My old G burnt out one of the tracks, cant remember the symptoms but a quick soldering in of a new wire fixed it.
does the misfire happen on a paticular cylinder or random?

Righto fellas,

Have stripped cams etc from head to have a look at what could cause the top end rattle. Nothing found. Inspected bores with gynaelogical gysmo...all good. Re-assembled cams, checked valve clearances (had to do the timing a couple of times to get it right), put the lid back on and fired her up, with new plugs. Ran like a dream  :-* Carried out a tune up and then the proverbial hit the fan. :(

Back firing, missing and generally mis behaving >:( Got to be electrical...well done Steptoe, not that I doubted you. :D Also noticed a small quick blow back through the carbs, when turning the key??? ::) ::) on one occasion. Strange yea??? :o

So for you guru's....waddaya reackon. Seems sheis breaking down only when hot!!! ???
