hey nozila
any reputable machine shop can replicate the spoke rear wheel in this thread.  The first post explains the process.

I'm digging up an old thread here but can those spoke rears be replicated? I'm reading that's its rather difficult to source sonar parts to create...

And finally:
 Other bits n pieces
Indicator mounts fabricated to be repositioned like the (U.S.?) bike on the cover of the clymer manual
new plastic seat base re-upholstered over re-used original moulded foam and  a bum bag in matching upholstery over a mould I made out of esky foam. Good for carrying scarf gloves tools etc to keep the shape
Rear mudguard re- shaped with tin snips
Paint and pinstriping by me, local sticker shop made the tuning fork stickers and then several coats of clear
Switchblocks were stripped and then lashings of paintstripper applied to take them bake to raw alloy finish
Laverda adjustable handle bars
Lightend the whole thing by 15kgs by removing anything that wasnt essential to make the bike run such as horns n brackets, pillion pegs n brackets, centre stand(only used in the workshop)some electrical bits like self canselling blinker thingo. etc etc

Back into the workshop....
Motor Touchup
Motor had about 150,000 kays on it at this point and had lugged me and a enough gear to travel around Oz for 2 years, and was probably using a litre of oil every 2000km. As long as I owned it i did an oil change every 2500km and a filter every second oil change.
1st oversize pistons n rings and a general full overhaull with new crankshaft plain bearings,  primary chain, cam chain and pretty much any wearable part other than the crank, cams and gears wether they need replacing or not.  the plain bearings probably would've been fine but while I was in that deep....why not
While all these bits were pulled out, the crankcase, cylinder block, heads etc were re-assembled as an empty shell. Tlhen every single orifice was blanked plugged or generally blocked off before a trip to the sandblaster.
Glad I didnt do it with an assembled motor coz I got about a cupful of Garnet out of it when i stripped it all back down again.
Motor wouldnt have lasted 5 mins with that stuff circulating around in the oil.

While the motor was out the frame, triple clamps, battey holder, and rear brake caliper went to the powder coater.

I made enquiries to Staintune a while ago about a system for my bike ( I was looking at getting my 2h9 on the road) and they said they don't make an exhaust for any XS1100 anymore, which deflated my optimism somewhat. You must've gotten in while they still made them.
BTW How much would you charge for a Jonesy replica system???

Hey Eveready,
When I got the 4-1 made, I left the bike at there Mittagong factory for about 3weeks. Even at that time Early-mid 90's they didnt have an off the shelf system for an XS.

Tuning wise. No flat spot, bike pulled away nice and strong in top at just about any speed

Hmmm I dont think you could afford the "replica system" :D....way too many man hours involved. If cartons of beer were currency you'd be up for at least a pallet

So............how did it measure up, tuning wise, compared to the original 4-1?
It'd be bloody handy being able to weld like that. I've only done one exhaust repair on my bike, with a newly purchased gasless mig welder and i can say, I was Sh****NG myself the whole time waiting for the first hole to blow through. Luckily, i was lucky. No major disasters, and I haven't had to repeat the procedure.

Hey steptoe, yeah I was going for the older cafe racer style and the what the? effect. I made a blunder with the twin headlights, they were all the rage at the time but wrong for this overall style. If I'd a held onto it I was going to fit rubber gators on the forks and a single round h/light

Exhaust
started out as a 1 off custom made staintune 4 into1, that used to scrape right where the 4 header pipes turned into 1. and always had a big flat spot in tuning terms.
So I thought our eastern friends at the yamaha factory knew more about tuning than me so I decided to follow suit....sort of... and made it into a pair of 2 into 1's without a balance tube between
I purchased another muffler from staintune, chopped up the 4-1 headers right at the junction, fabricated 2 Y pieces re-angled the header pipes and joined em all back up again.
I didnt have access to a bender so the kink in the pipe you can see in the first photo is made up of about a dozen cuts and joins
Very time consuming....but you can get a lot done on quiet night shifts
I'm a fitter/welder too which helps

Hey cooper, thanks. Theres some more photos in the "introduce yourself" section

Eveready, 2 reasons for the 18". with the bigger rim there was more room for movement to get that offset I mentioned to replicate the mag wheel and there were more choices of tyres for 18's compared to 17's

Hey Jonesy, Any particular reason you went for an 18" rear rim as opposed to a 17 incher?
