Hi Pete. that's probably exactly what the bikes seller has done after getting the message from John about the different ignition bits. I wouldn't be surprised if John doesn't hear from the fellow, and the ad gets pulled from Gumtree because the seller has found what was wrong with the bike. Still just a theory, though. We'll see.

hey errol,
the standard i bought recently had the 3x1 engine in it,
and ran the 2h7/9  tci,
best way to check would be to remove the ignition cover
and checking if there is a mechanical advance fitted to the engine,
if so the 2h7/9 tci would be the correct one, no mech adv then the 4ro
is the correct tci.

Hi text guy about numbers said he would check numbers and send back.I mentioned could be problem if later motor has been fitted, and has been no response about checking numbers.
looks like i am going to have to do my engine up need mains, big ends ( any ebay addresses  would be greatly appreciated)  , primary chain , cam chain, full gasket set, carby needle & seat, slide diaphragms, gear box bearings ( will source bearing shops ?)  . have second hand cam chain bridge guide for head . Can you get new ones unable to find at moment.
I had given up on this project until I saw Tony's ad and joined the club.
Any Idea what sought of money i could be up for engine rebuild if I do most of it ?
Cheers

I've got a theory. Frame make is 2H9. Instruments square so probably 2H9 harness. Motor prefix is 3X1, which is the 81 Standard, not the RH. 3X1 motor used the 4R0 TCI unit. 2H9 harness would have the 2H7 TCI unit. I wonder how long that motor has been in the frame?

Theory is maybe PO had the 3X1 motor rebuilt then swapped it for the original 2H9 motor, but didn't know about the different TCI unit which made the newly installed motor run like shite??

....which prompted original Ebay seller to sell it off cheaply to this fellow who now wants to get rid of it for offers?

Just a theory..............

that'll be 2H9,, and yep it's made up of 2 bikes at least,, numbers don't match to start with,,

that's not to say it's a bucket of bolts, they are all strong motors {usually :-X} and if the frame's straight, a base starting point you will have  8), and from there, the sky's the limit, {sorry the road's the limit}

Yes. The RH's are easily spotted as they have leading axle forks and different brake calipers.
XS11 E's have the axle right at the bottom of the slider. The ones on the bike that is advertised are off an E or a Standard, broadly speaking.

Hi Hen. Any XS1100 motor will fit your bike, though if it's a later model, you may have to change the ignition rotor assembly off your original donk as they have a different ignition module on them. The first 3 digits of the frame / engine number will identify which model they are. The 78E & 79F is 2H9, 80G & 81H is 3X1. These are the Standard models that were marketed here. The RH's prefix is 5N5 which should cover all the Australian bikes. If he comes back to you with something different, let us know as it might have come from an import bike.
All the Standards had straight spoke wheels and the Rh's had swirly ones.
We've pretty much picked that that bike is mostly RH, but with standard forks & brakes on it.
Let us know how you get on.
