jat for next time, not sure if u were aware or not,
but lube the seals and bore with some rubber grease or fresh
brake fluid, that will also help when sliding the shaft in, and bleed
the master cylinder before fitment.

So how does it work ?

I'm a bit worried, I can't work out what "buckets" Steptoe is talking about, if they are the cup seals then they both face forward ( into the cyld and hard to fit ) and not facing each other.

if your talking about the seals inside the cylinder,, they sit in the grooves at either end of the shaft, number 15 is what your looking at

http://www.nwvcp.com/pages/OemParts#/Yamaha/XS1100H_-_1981/BRAKE/XS1100H_(1981_MOTORCYCLE)/BRAKE_(XS1100H_-_1981)

the "buckets" are tapered, on the inside of the taper is a small groove, these grooves have to face each other to work, they will be bloody tight to put on, you have to stretch them to fit over the shaft, so make sure you get it right first, you can use a really small flat screw driver to feed them on, but don't use the very end

when putting back together the first bucket will be facing the right way to slide in, the next bucket will have to be "worked" in, be carefull and DO NOT use anything with a sharp or straight edge to push the seal edge in with,

hope that is what your chasing

More help required from fellow XS1100 Riders. Where are the rubbers seals situated on the shaft? I pulled the old one apart months ago and forgot to take a photo. Have looked at photos online but they don't show me where they go

Thanks to anyone who replies.
