try winding the lever adjust in, then loosen the clutch end lock nut and wind the screw in, {or out} :-\ which should allow you to  take the slack up, back it off that tiniest bit, lock that back up and then adjust lever

Thanks steptoe that's the same as the one I have and the small amount of adjustment at the clutch end won't make much difference. We're talking about the fact the cable needs more than the maximum adjustment available at the lever end before we even stretch it. Can't work it out!

ay mate,, can't really help you with part numbers,

went and measured mine,, 1180mm outer,, and the cable length itself a further 90mm give or take 5mm

have you adjusted the screw and lock nut at the clutch end ? might give you that little bit

Hi all, just put my clutch back together on my RH and bought new cable as the old one was damaged at lever end. The old cable according to the parts list I have and on the UK XS1100 forum was 5K7-26335-00-00 but the one currently the replacement from Yamaha is 23W -26335-10 look the same but the old one the outer sleeve is 1cm longer therefore less movement of cable. My problem is that with adjuster all the way out the cable not really tight enough to pull clutch in. The old cable I had presumed was on its last legs as it was at maximum adjustment but it had 1cm less to tighten up compared with this new one. I can't understand why a brand new cable should be so long to begin with or is there anyway one of the POs could have changed anything to account for this otherwise I'm going to have to use a spacer but really I shouldn't have to.

Thanks Charlie
