Steptoe, I'l be in it if i'm able, as far as the destination ? i'd probably prefer Dubbo, but Bourke would be ok to for me, whatever the consensus, if my bike is going again by that time, which is debatable, i'd hope to be ridin down with you and evv. Cheers, merry Xmass to you all,

Ray and other members........the polls are here for the  "members"  to decide on what the destination will be.

If you intend to participate .......Vote for either ......Bourke...or.....Dubbo.
If your not fussed between the two and will attend......place a vote in both polls.
What we are after is a MAJORITY for one or the other.
Both places were chosen for reasons as already explained in the many posts listed .

Simply put.......if 15 people vote Dubbo......and 5 vote Bourke....as a group who wish to attend.........we all go to Dubbo.......and vice versa.

Please take the time to read through the posts regarding the destinations and comments  so far regarding accomodation,  consider the options ........decide if your going to join in..........then vote.
The sooner we have  numbers and votes from attendees ...... their choice will show where the majority wants to go.
Thanks Guys.

Lurking along here.

I, for one, don't have an issue with the date or distance.

Trying to work out if I need 2 or 3 days or a week makes taking this thread seriously a little difficult.

The location needs to be set. One person needs to make a decision, no more discussion.

I may or may not be able to be there, see what happens.
cheers

am joining several threads together here
I,m beginning to think the term "rally" was the wrong word to describe,
as has been said, we're not financial and as such a "rally" like "longflat" or "blackduck" or any other w/end isn't likely to work,
there won't be cold rooms on site to feed and liquify the masses, or water tank for the obvious

which is why a tamer first meeting place such as a caravan park was suggested by organisers, for those travelling light, or bringing partners along, and those that are past that type of w/end with no amenities,
a couple of days meeting talking and swapping w/shop experiences seems to make sense,  and as said riding the distances that some will be riding, a piss up and entertainment at a pub seems pointless, that can be done at home any w/end

the polls were set up for 6 weeks to get some gauge of interest from the majority, from there we'd work something else out if the negative was stronger, for the amount of reads of the threads there's not many votes on the polls,,,, hit the "submit vote" button and have a say

we have only 15 genuine interest fellas and only 10 votes, the easiest way for a desicion to be made is vote on the polls so we can see where the interest does or doesn't lie, or time will be on us and we'll be screwed, and will be a massive fail with only the die hards meeting somewhere at a moments notice, so to speak

once a destination is sorted, other logistics will fall into place

Well if the rally ends up being within cycling distance of Melbourne then, as I'm hoping to be working there that weekend, I'll come along.

Unless someone knows how I can smuggle the Yam onto a Qantas flight...... ;D ;D ;D ;D

I live in the UK so I won't be able to make it to an Aus rally wherever you hold it - but I thought I'd drop in a few of my thoughts.... as a neutral.

When we started off XS1100UK we wanted to get in touch with as many owners as possible so we held small local meetups (often just a Sunday lunch in a pub) but spread these all over the country.  Even nowadays, it's common to get new blokes turn up who none of us had every met before, and they usually don't 'do' forums - but they will read them !

So, if you're meeting up close to where a newbie lives then they've got no excuse not to turn up.

I suppose it depends what your objective is, if you just wanna have a party then have a big meetup somewhere central, if you want to encourage new people to show their faces then have a few local meetups and build up 'membership' before having that enormous party.  ;D

Lets not lose sight of this idea with all the different places being suggested
Even if it means a few local meets leading up to a big one.
There must be a few XS11's who do not get on a computer, I know of 1 myself

We are still very young and getting the hang of this and we have time to figure it out.
My phone at home is 0280048570 and I can call anyone back that needs to talk (free calls  :D :D)

OK, I'm in just decide on the location so I know how much time to book off work, distance is not a problem, just did 1500km in 2 1/2 days no destination , just riding and no problems.

longer ride = better ride

Dubbo creates a better option for SA, with similar distances for all others.

Adelaide: 1200km  (via Mildura and Hay)
Melbourne:934km  (via Hay to meet SA)
Sydney: 400km
Bundaberg:1100km
Townville:1780km

Compared to:

Place of origin              Bourke   Bendemeer
Townsvile                        1490       1730
Adelaide                          1130       1580
Melbourne                       1230       1000
Bundaberg                      1170         860

Distances are the killer here.

My 2cents worth is to keep it as central as possible to everyone
The 1400 oddK run from Adelaide and Bundy are quite daunting I would say for just a weekend, it would be ok if you were doing a trip.

Just a thought

Hey blokes don't consider me ,as suggested by steptoe.  when working out the distance etc I will be fine.
It must be accessible to all members that is the number one consideration.

As for numbers turning up I think the newness of all this and the numbers of our bikes will be a natural damper on overcrowding.

When I did the XS rally in Germany there was a bit under 300 turn up but it was all done with registration
The shirts etc were sold at the rally and the accomodation was camp or motel stay (all pre arranged) and it worked fine.....but then it was Germans organising it  ;D ;D

for the SA guys,  { I don't know your riding exp, or history } but the 1500 klm/ 17 hrs is googles take on it, you'll find that the 17 hrs, is at a slightly slower rate than normal,

having done yrs of long distance riding, {1400 in a day, probably my biggest} if you guys left at 6 or 7 in the morning, and not ride overly fast but consistently,{which means not having 20 min fuel stops} you'll be well and truelly past Cobar before dark and wildlife time, then took off about the same time the next morning you'd be at Bendemeer mid afternoon, unless you've got a brilliant set of lights on those bikes, were you ridng in the dark to get to bourke?, or still taking the 2nd day to get there,, so your still using 2 days to get  here,

not sure how much encouragement you need, :-X but I'm sure there'll be a few more get on here and push for you come over :)

Good on ya guys and well done Steptoe and all....it's coming together. You need any help give me a shout. Bendemeer it is then....aaww gee I was hoping Bunbury!!! Who wants to work when you can ride??? Yep will try and catch up with Steptoe on the way down and we can ride together. For me....I'm going to enjoy the ride, wherever the venue is, 'coz I don't want to hammer the shite outta the ol' girl.

My dollars worth, it would be handy if catering was provided, therefore lets get a register of who is "definite", "possibles" and no shows don't count!!! It's a kick off and gives one an idea of numbers!! We have to have something fixed as soon as possible, 'coz believe me, May will creep up quickly. Just shout if you need a "donkey" to do some investigation for facilities etc.

Look forward to meeting yawl!! Cheers, Rhodie.
While riding, have eyes like a cameleon!!!
Never trust anyone on the road...including yourself!!!
A bike is better than sex...the ride always lasts longer!!!
