I did it in the dirt at the inaugral Laverda Australia Rally at Bellengen - in third gear, header pipes glowing red hot, had to ride home with some god awful gashes in the tyre.... :o
there is a video of it somewhere....

Did that once with a near new Avon Roadrunner at a bike show in Adelaide and had to ride it off the block through a gravel carpark. :'(

Next day we headed back to Melbourne and I couldn't work out why everone was hanging back so far until I heard the stones hitting the mudguard.

Great adrenaline rush too when you tip it into a corner and it falls off the flat centre to the tyre's outer edge. :o

Flat profile tyres arent going to worry you in the slightest then. Those bourke roads will save you having to do a burnout to get that shape. 8)

funny man......prob wouldn't matter where the rally is - by the time I do the obligatory burn out the rear will be down in the middle anyway.... ;D
my bike - but not me......

Ok.......i got an idea for the left side of your tyres Bryan ....... (sometimes i scare myself with all the brainiac ideas that just keep tryin to push their way outta my head)...here goes.....
When you arrive at the rally....all the guys that have drunk the most beer...........grab the back of your bike and lift it off the suspension with a tilt to the left side....while you gun the bike and smoke off the uneven wear......BADDA BING.!!!......... round tyre.!

Now........for the trip home...repeat step 1) re roundabouts.........
Proceed to step 2)......hmmmmmm......no beer and no guys to lift the bike..........
Damn ...........i thought i had it......!!!

Bryan.........regarding the anticipated  wear  on your rear tyre........at each roundabout you come to...........ride 20 circles around it and continue on with your journey.
I ll get back to you on what to do about the left side of your tyres.........when i think of something...!!!

I haven't had a ride longer than 100 km in the last 25 years so I'm happy to travel wherever.
In fact I'm looking forward to it.
I may need a saddle donut though

1080km from my place - west of Lightning Ridge - over lots of straight roads - I will have a truck tyre as a rear by the time I get home for sure.....
