have been playing with fluids for cleaning, gave the oil filter housing a flogging with 80 degree water and 3 caps of ct18 truck wash
for 2 hrs, still had a white powdery feeling gunk left on the surfaces

not really happy with the result I thought I,d play with some concentrates of acid, so I picked on lemons {citric acid}, I put 2 whole through the nutri bullet

then put the resulting puree into the balance of the machine for the same time and heat

a far better result that had the metal feeling clean and dry, no oily feeling, even had some of the old peeling paint coming off,
will now play with a stronger concentrate for a shorter time span

Try sticking it in plastic container, completely submerging in vinegar and run it through the microwave. Works wonders on diving gear.

You can put metal in a microwave ? :o
Tin foil sparks like a mad scientists experiment.
Place the microwave in an appropriate spot for that new doorway or window.
Would love you to video it as well.
That would make a great "how to" vid ....whichever way it goes. :)

Vinager is awesome at cleaning, I think heating it up in a pot on the stove would do the same without the fear of explosion.

so if you can stand the smell of the stuff, putting vinigar in an ultra sconic cleaner with a 80 degree heating capacity, we may be onto something ??

I'm kinda thinking (backed up by years of doing it) that Vinegar won't explode.

Solutions at more than 25% acetic acid are handled in a fume hood because of the pungent, corrosive vapour. Dilute acetic acid, in the form of vinegar, is practically harmless. However, ingestion of stronger solutions is dangerous to human and animal life. It can cause severe damage to the digestive system, and a potentially lethal change in the acidity of the blood.
Due to incompatibilities, it is recommended to keep acetic acid away from chromic acid, ethylene glycol, nitric acid, perchloric acid, permanganates, peroxides and hydroxyls.[65]
Concentrated acetic acid can be ignited only with difficulty in the laboratory, but becomes a flammable risk in ambient temperatures above 39 °C (102 °F), and can form explosive mixtures with air at higher temperatures (explosive limits: 5.4–16%).
So it probably won't burn or go bang.
It definitely does clean bike bits up.

Tried exhaust manifold clamps on the stove in vinegar yesterday. Boiled the crap out of them and didn't do much :/
