Title: Carburettors
Post by: lumox on September 21, 2015, 06:52:58 PM
Pulled the carbs off the bike. Cleaned with carb cleaner where ever I could spray. Jets removed and cleaned. Checked that the floats moved freely. Put them back together placed back on the bike. Throttle was opened and closed nice and smooth action. Started bike and instantly starts revving at 7000. Twist throttle but the revs don't decrease, adjusted the idle screw no change, pull choke open and the revs decrease down to 5000. Didn't pull the floats apart as I'm heavy handed and don't want to break the steams that hold the pin in place.
Checked the fuel and vacuum hoses to make sure they are in the correct order.

Any advice on what to do next.

Sounds like the idle mixture may be too lean. I also like to put Injector cleaner in the tank..Put a whole bottle in you can't over treat the system

Are the butterfly valve thingys open? with throttle completely closed the butterflys  should appear completely shut,(but there should be a poofteenth of a gap) a gap of a of a mm or more could be your problem. these are adjustable.

Seal off all 4 vac nozzles on the inlet boots see if that helps

Sealed off all 4 vac nozzles on the inlet boots no difference, as soon as I hit the starter button rev’s straight to 7000. Undone the manifold clamps still no diff.

Should I now pull the carbs off and try a bench synch again?

I had the same problem when I rebuilt the carbs on 3131.

Followed advice from Irish Kiwi and reset the butterflys to a poofteenth instead of the thickness of a paperclip.  this made all the difference.

so yes take them off and bench set them.....again.

Hi Eddy,

What did you use to get the poofteenth.

I followed the recommendations from PGNZ on setting up the carbs.
You will find the post if you search back to about early 2014.

From memory He Did it all by eye.  Hey it worked

I then finished off with a carby sync
