Hi Guys,
Good to be back on the forum after 14 weeks and 18,000kms travelling around the country in the camper trailer with the family.
Just picked the bike up and next on the 'to do' list is the ignition coils. I've had a look around the 'net without too much luck so far and wondered if anyone on the forum has recent experience buying coils? Any recommendations for where to buy a set to fit my 1980 G model (or sites to avoid)?
Cheers,
Edgey

Hey Edgy,
Sounds like a magic trip. Where did you go?
Do a search on this forum on Dyna coils, I have a set on my E model, hasn't' missed a beat since I've had them.

Hey Edgy,
Sounds like a magic trip. Where did you go?
Hi Eddy,
It was an unbelievable trip. We left from Adelaide and went up the centre to Darwin, then Kakadu, the Bungles, Kimberly, Gibb River Rd, Cape Leveque, North West coast, Karijini National Park in the Pilbarra (incredible), down the west coast to Perth and then home via the Nullabor and the Eyre Peninsula. One sentence doesn't do it justice but the North-West in particular was something completely different.
Flipping and writing the camper trailer off on the Gibb River Rd was a slight...err...hiccup to say the least (dropped a U-Bolt due to the corrugations) but we managed to get another one freighted up and continued the trip without too many hassles.
Now it's back to the real world (work) and some more time working on the bike. I'll check out those coils - thanks for the tip (and Christian too for the links).

Just found an earlier thread on Dyna coils and had a look at Z1 Enterprises.
Before I hit the 'buy now' button can anyone confirm that I'm ordering the right things:
Dyna Dual Output 3.0 Ohm Coils (pair) DC1-1
Should I be getting the 3.0 Ohm or 1.5 Ohm coils? Going by other threads it seems like 3.0 Ohm are the go.
http://www.z1enterprises.com/ItemDetails.aspx?itemDescription=Dyna+Dual+Output+3.0+Ohm+Coils+%28pair%29+DC1-1&item=DYDC1-1
Plus...Dyna Ignition Wires 7mm copper core (black)
http://www.z1enterprises.com/ItemDetails.aspx?itemDescription=Dyna+Ignition+Wires+7mm+copper+core+%28black%29&item=DYDW200
Is that all I will need? (I already have new plugs and caps ready to go.)
Thanks,
Jarrad

Hey Jarrad,
Yep, I installed the 3.0 Ohm coils and removed the ballast.
I used the 7mm wire with NGK caps.
Had to fabricate a couple of brackets, that is all explained n the threads.
Good luck

dyna coils they're heavy-duty, good crackle from your spark leads, give em' the full 12 volts , ditch the nonsense ballast-resistor and hurl it into the bush, bolted mine with no brackets and 90deg boots, brown models and only 1.5 resistance, no resistor caps either, 'experts' tell me the black box will explode into flames because of it, load of bollocks, proven reliable not like all the chintzy junk you see going for cheap on ebay and on places like ditzy mikes'XS and the clowns running parts'n' more pulling stupid stunts like charging 45 bucks to send you a two dollar bolt

Thanks boys. Just pulled out the Visa and paid for the 3.0 Ohm coils and 7mm black leads from Z1 Enterprises.
$185 AUD including postage from the US. Now comes the waiting part...
Can't wait to get new coils, leads and spark plugs on the old girl.

Quick question: Thinking of changing out my original coils and leads and gong to "Dyna Coils". After reading several posts, i am not sure if i should be using 1.5 ohm or 3 ohm?? Also to add to my conundrum, Should i leave the Ballast Resistor in or remove?? 1978 model. cheers

Go the green 3 ohm coils and get rid of the ballast resistor

What Jonesy said.
