I see an add in where they ship bikes from US to Syd for $1000. Might be a waiting time (IE fill a container) but Still makes that bike a bargain. I might have to do that one day......Too many cheap US Bikes...mmmmmm....now the brain is ticking..

Mate,
compliancing is a major, major headache :(
I wouldn't even try it with any bike more than ten years old, and I think there is an age cutoff actually. :-\
Can anyone confirm that?

Yeah compliance can be a headache....my brother did it with a GB500 Honda no sweat though....went to about three RTO's and got the need an engineers report, certificate this and that blah blah.....then found this guy that said yeah no prob they are sold here just need to do a check on lights bang done.....easy peasy.....Sometimes ya just have to find the right guy....here in Tas it's a bit easier.....just has to meet standards in check IE lights and brakes etc work....and manufactured by a recognised manufacturer IE Harley, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki.....blah blah......the big Island States are all fussy n stuff.....what are the territory's like....might be a case of over the border and back again..... ;D

Hi all- Bikes have to be 15+ years old before you can get an import permit from DOTARS..... Even for importing an older bike you will need that PERMIT as if it lands in Australia without one, then DOTARS denies you a permit, under the Customs act you will have to A- Surrender the bike for destruction, or B- re- export it back to where it has come from, or another destination outside of Australia........ Cheeers Bunge

That's why there is money to be made for those who go to the effort and take the risks. Might have to actually go through the whole process and see how hard it is for myself and make a judgment whether or not it's worth it. If I break even...then no loss...if I profit and it's not that hard then I join the grey import mob...he he... ;D....now just have to wait till I get some spare cash......oh tax time soon.......always overpay.....might be some floating around...... ::)
