Title: loom routing
Post by: wiz on November 10, 2011, 09:58:44 AM
The 2 parts of the loom that go to the headlight, ????? through the 2 clamps on the frame, cross over & go under the lower triple tree & up to the headlight, is that right, looks a bit untidy ????????

Just had a look at mine
go through the clamps on frame, NO crossover, then go over the bottom triple clamp to the head light. Leaves a fair bit of slack between main frame and bottom triple clamp

Jonesy, I tried that route & it looked like they would pinch on full lock.
Melbxs, I have those diagrams, it's where they go forward of the steering head that it gets a bit hazy.
Can anyone else have a squiz at there's for me ?

yep for a 78' cross them under

Mate,

for the '78 Standard.

Forward to the frame neck, no crossover, out under the neck between the frame and the oil cooler (there is a double loop clip attached to the frame there), forward under the steering head and up in front of the bottom triple tree through the bolt on keeper either side of the brake line junction and then the right side loom goes into the rear hole in the headlight and the left loom goes into the hole on the left side of the headlight.

Get all that ???

Print it out and take it to the bike and you can follow it along as you read it.

This leaves a nice little loop under the tree for movement to either full lock.

Let me know how you get on mate ;D

hey jonesy,

not sure if it matters,
but my loom comes up from under the bottom tripple tree
into the headlight bucket.

jonesy

As Pete says the loom actually comes out from under the bottom tree and then up to the light.
If you look on the front of the tree you'll find a hole on either side for a couple of bolts to attach a holding frame for both sides of the loom to next to the brakeline junction.

Yours might be missing.

Hey wiz,
like Grant said all the electricity is going where its supposed to, I do vaguely remember having  one of those brackets on my old 11.   I'm not too phased (see what I did there 8) ;D :P) that its not asthetically quite right
She's coming up nice mate.

I've found one, too, I see where it bolts, to the lower tripple tree, but what bolts to the threaded lugs on each end ?

I have a short earth lead  (about 100mm) it was bolted to the middle gear casing, where does the other end bolt to ?
Title: Re: loom routing
Post by: Fred on November 15, 2011, 03:43:52 PM
wiz,

it goes back through the eyelet on the centre spar of the frame immediately behind it and then 2" left to the welded bracket which also has the side cover lock attached to it.

But check with jonesy first mate :-* LOL

Fred about that loom bracket you posted, what bolts to the 2 ends ?
Title: Re: loom routing
Post by: Fred on November 17, 2011, 08:59:12 AM
Mate,

the wires come up through the large keeper and up in front of the bolted on section of the bracket.
Then another plate (2H7-23317-00 Holder Wire) is laid on top of the wires and bolts on at both ends thereby compressing the wires between the two.

Ebay always has a few books (Yamaha Parts Lists) going cheap that give you all the scematics and part numbers. I highly recommend you buy one.

Make sure you buy one that specifically has printed on the front "Model XS1100E". Also, the smaller B3 sized one will have on it "FOR AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND".

Your pilot mixture screw is in the mail.

If this helps to show what Fred is explaining to you,
The wire frame is part no 22 shown end on in this pic. It gets sandwiched between the brake line junction block and the lower triple clamp.
The plate is no 23 which goes onto the lugs you mentioned in the photo previously and goes across the front of the junction block.

And here's the plate.........

That's the plate I haven't got, however, I used the 2 captive nuts to mount a plate I made that works as an adjuster for the new round headlight I bought.
