Seams like I have bought the wrong Fork Brace for my 1979 Standard, I had no idea that the forks on a RH are a different size than those on a standard. This brace is in good condition and has the number 58 stamped on the underside, when I tried fitting it to my forks, it was too big to clamp the stems with the dust covers removed. With the dust covers replaced, it is too small to clamp the stems without doing damage to the covers. So if anybody has the correct one that I need and find themselves needing this one that I have, then how about a straight swap ;D

I've just ordered mine and I can now confirm that the prices listed are current.
You have to specify whether you have a Standard or a Special / RH as they have a different bridge shape for the mudguard and are a slightly different diameter around the fork sliders dust seal area.
Unfortunately, you've come across one of the myriad of minor differences between the models. Steptoe and I were contemplating making up a list of what fits which, but that'll be a long time in coming.

Lads,my mate Jenko[holds an unbreakable lap record at Mt Panorama/motorcycle mechanic/owner of zx1400,set on 'full power','no traction control']told me that i dont need my fork brace;that Mr Yamaha designed the mudguard to do the job and that anyway, some flex is needed]But Jenko also said that Aluminium was an alloy, and i took great delight in telling him, chest puffed out to its full 52," that it was a metal on the periodic scale but that it could be alloyed.Fark i'm clever[can't work out why i aint rich]Please give me good reason to reinstate my aesthetically pleasing and comment attracting fork brace.
-
Because if you've got one there in your hot little hand, use it.
I'll bet "Jenko" hasn't got any flex built in to his 1400
-
thanks Errol,i will check with Jenko[itallics unnecessary :)]and run the statement/question of yours past him, in the interests of truth, safety speed and style. He may be wrong. Is the truth out there?Love ya trailer setup Errol :)
-
Dunno about the truth being out there, but here's some facts for you to hit him with.
ZX - Fork diameter - 43 mm. Dry weight - 225 kg. = stable at speed
XS - Fork diameter - 37 mm. Dry weight - 258 kg = a bit wobbly at speed
Maybe you could talk him into fitting the spindly XS forks on his ZX so he can appreciate what Fork Flex is?

Its a piece of 100mm x 5mm mild steel bent into a "U" and doubles as the front guard bracket...
The alloy thing....that's basically window dressing.......
and yes...its stable at speed
;D
-
Whats stability?
At 193 kph with your eyes buggin out ..............your whole body tensed and locked as one.... with the bike.......
knowing that ......one rogue animal........no matter how big or small will totally ruin your day..........
and yet.........
you hold that throttle wide open.........watching the speedo climb and climb......thinking to yourself....
geez i m glad i fit that fork brace!!
Finally you succumb to common sense,(a stable sense of mind), and ease off .......
screaming...Wooo Hooooo........... inside your helmet.
Ever done that?

;)
-
Who s been a naughty boy then? ;D ;D ;D
-
I added a short video that this still is from to the discs I mailed.....the machine seemed to become more stable between 170 and there.....and was pretty dam stable anyway.
but you are correct Mad Max eyes looking for roadkill, a tight grip on the 'bars ....etc

Fork brace
shmork face
Scotty I'm with your mate the esteemed record holding Jenko. If people think that little ol piece of alloy bolted between there spindly little forks is going to transform that 70's technology lump of steel between there legs into something like a steadfast bullet on rails then they need to take a reality pill To counteract the placebo they've already taken
I've run an XS with and without and shucked if i could tell the difference.
:o :o ouch...hot topic emerging.
Thats just my opinion.....and I'm sticking to it :-*
-
A Typical "Shmork Face".

or....just a "Bad Apple".
-
Well People, I havn't done a lot of K,s since the old girl got back on the road but after fitting a brace there is a considerable difference in the way she tucks into corners and powering out of tight corners or bumpy corners is a real delight now. able to use all of the tyre right round to the edge of the tread. then added a steering damper, high speed bumpy corners are a breeze now, We're all different in the way we ride but I won't be taking mine off!!
-
One other thing lads,Jenko seems to think that the brace can distort/crush the seals.Ps Jonesy, some of us ride 80's technology in the form of the far superior RH Sport :)
-
I'm with makzy and his remarks.....
prior to fitting the steel brace/bracket I had cracked the alloy fork brace thru where it fits over the
fork leg.... I had it welded, polished and re-fitted it.
I reckon if you have one - fit it..
B
-
Hey Scotty
Hate to brake it to you mate but all the RH neans is its got a Round Headlight.
I'll put into a sentence so you get the right context.
"someone wrecked me XS11 standard by putt'n on a Round Headlight sport. how do you reckon I can fix it :P
-
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah....
-
Hey Bryan, if you want to "fix" your G, I've got a 'tangular light sitting in the garage doing nothing and a pair of heavy weight standard wheels to replace those lightweight RH swirly spokers that have some how found their way onto your standard and made it look a bit RHish.
-
Giggle.....
I also have a "diving mask" headlight in stock..... as well as the straight spoke wheels, and the "big as my palm" indicators, and foot peg brackets, foot pegs (well, a passanger one anyway), 2 sets of stock carbs, speedo/tacho nacelle, .....
I wonder if any RH owners would like to .... um... upgrade....
:D
-
gotta love Jonesys witt,, ;D 8){ RH,,round headlight}
am sitting in a truck stop in brissy reading this,,
have burst out laughing at his remark,, :P
got every body wondering what I,m looking at ::)
-
You mean............your sitting in your truck.......
..with your "Laptop" on your lap....... ;)
looking down at it..... ???
and your laughing out loud? ::)
I can t see anything at all that would seem strange with..... THAT!!!! :o :o :o
-
to clarify,,,, am sitting in the dining room of a truck stop,, :) laughing out loud ;D
I wonder if they frown upon typing whilst driving the same way as texting????? :o ;D :-\
-
Sorry for reviving this dormant thread, but I have to ask the question to Bryan. How the hell did you crack your alloy brace??????

Where does that awesome looking brace come from? I use Tkat's braces on everything so far and they make a considerable difference handling wise. The one you show here is one beefy looking brace and I am very interested in finding out who makes it and where to find one. Thanks
-
hello Rasp....
that brace came with a front end I picked up for spares 10 years ago....I shouldn't think it would be too difficult for an
engineering shop to bend one up for you....
Bryan
-
So there is no name or other markings that tell us what make or model it could possibly be? Just thought it may be simple to look up the manufacturer or find old stuff on ebay that would save a bunch of measureing and other hassles. thanks for the reply too.
-
I think i might reinstate the brace.
-
Hi Ras,, TKat is off the . Com site no...? Or Google tkat you, 'll get him

I have several of TKat's braces on my bikes. I love the extra handling it does provide. I would just like to know the maker of the brace pictured above so I can look for one. It is a very hardy looking unit and I would like to spread it's name and abilities if it is a worthwhile unit.
-
a kosher fork brace has adjustment , you crank the forkbrace tight AFTER locking the axle nut for a non-stress fit, a solid brace with no adustment just binds the forks and fekks the seals
-
Tkat's fork brace can be found at http://www.tkat.com/forkbrace.html . He is often slow at answering his emails but he does sell a quality product and I think it is around $110 Canadian dollars. Like I say I have several and will be ordering another soon.
His email is Tkat@tkat.com IIRC.
