One of the two bikes I used to build my old girl was from Ariah Park near Temora.
The other I beleive was originally a Benalla bike.
It's unusual in that some one has modified the frame by strengthening it under the seat between the rear shock absorber supports.
Coupled with that and the fork brace it makes the bike feel a great deal firmer on the road than I remember my former old head shaker.
Does anyone have any memory of a bike like that I would be interested who modified it.

Hi Scarfey,
Steptoe an I had a bike workshop day yesterday and after seeing both bikes naked side by side, I'm hanging out to see your photos of the modded frame you have. Compared to the Special frame, the RH has got gussets everywhere compared, and a few extra short tubes where mine has none. Please put a pic up soon mate, so we can see what you've got.
We're going to put up some comparison pics when we put my new carb diaphrams in.

I have a bare RH frame in the shed if you want detailed pics/measurements of all the brace points on it.

That would be greatly appreciated, Brian. They're quite a strong looking unit compared to the wimpy Special frame. It's got bits everywhere one would think about beefing up a stocker, and it's factory!
Might be why they're called XS1100R's, eh?

I was just looking up the later year added strength frame and hard to find much info?

Basket Case is a fully braced 1981 RH frame. Yamaha basically did what the race boys were doing. There is a removable brace that bolts across the frame under the oil filter too, mine is missing and the four into one is in the way, but it is claimed that it adds a lot to the rigidity of the frame.

Yours was what got me thinking, mine is an 81 but doesn't have the extra bracing. I didn't remember seeing the bracing on yours till I looked again.
Thanks for the pictures. Should have thought of it before I painted Doh
