Stout, pistons are affordable ($30 each), but be very careful to get the right ones. Measure an old one before you order.

I got mine on EBay some time ago.

Yeah, but mine are mounted rather differently. I'll post up a pic when I remember...still have to post up some general pics of the outfit too.

the slastic idea has lasted the best part of 5 yrs now,, once the calliper assy can't flog or move, it  sits where it's sposed to

it was more a quick fix, that worked so I left it

am toying with an idea of setting up a plate with a hole so I can centre it on the oval hole of the calliper body,, drilling only as big as is absolutely needed to bring it back to round, and making a tiny hard plastic bush,,

but that's another vid  ::)

I was thinking similarly, but if I go to that kind of effort, I'll be bushing it with bronze.

Thanks for the silastic idea. Not sure it would last long on mine, they are pretty floppy and get thrown about a lot by the front suspension. I had the front wheel off yesterday to fit a new tyre and noticed the outer edge of the discs have been touching against the spring plates that stop the pads rattling and almost worn through ech of them in the same spot.

While I'm on the topic of brakes, has anyone priced new pistons lately, or is is better / cheaper to sleeve them?

going on the elongation  :o of the existing worn hole,, if the pin is 6mm,, the new hole may need to be 7.5--8,

with a tiny thin shouldered bush, it should look quite neat

thats a good idea Geoff,
still allows for movement while it
takes up the slop.  :)

hi stout,,

mate , mine are pretty bad, have dug in pretty bad, when I worked out what and how and who and why,, many yrs before this or other sites were found,,

I normally run with my first solution, which was--------------------------------and still is,, working today,,

clean the pin and the hole in the calliper with thinners or such,,

                                                here's the scientific bit
simply wipe a thin layer of silastic on each surface,, AND LET DRY FULLY

if your not happy with the fit of the pin/ calliper clearance,, wipe more silastic on the pin, making it thicker

then re-assemble,, rattle gone,, wear is pulled right back

Has anybody else found the float pins on their front brake calipers have worn into the caliper bodies enough that the calipers sort of flop around vertically in relaltion to the caliper mounting bosses when riding over bumps?

I suspect in the problem is probably worse in my case because the front calipers have been repositioned below the leading link lower arm ssuch that the weight of the caliper is well forward and really loads up the pins, but I'm hoping somebody else may have found the need to drill and bush these holes in the past and have some pointers / part numbers I can draw upon?
