One thing that many do not realize is that he also will provide cheaper rubber line replacements for thos who wish to remain stock. there is also a myriad of other parts such as brake pads, rotors, caliper pistons, rebuild kit and so much more. Worth a read rather than a quick glance
78E, 79SF currently running and road ready.
1 more in the wings patiently waiting with a big bore kit already installed.

Parasites and Weasels, there's a good description.

The problem with non ADR compliant add ons is not just the safety issues though, its whether or not those other Parasites and Weasels (Insurance companies), will pay up on your policy if it all goes pear shaped on you one day out on the road.

Not just your bike or yourself but if the other guy files for $20 Million for his injuries.

steel lines are steel lines there's a million local hydraulic outfits who do them,  like most things these days the dot bullshlt is just another con in a long line of cons,  if you can slap dot labels on your steel lines all that means is you've paid off the parasites and the weasels,  safety has nothing to do with  it

It's great to see someone specialising in a developing industry.  Good luck to him.  I don't need lines just at the moment.

Regard 'DOT' as some form of approval.  To the best of my knowledge the 'DOT' stamp, mark, imprint etc from overseas means 'diddly squat' in Australia.

If the component is supposed to comply with an Australian Standard, it needs ADR certification.  If the ADR is equivalent to the DOT standard, that is irrelevant.  Part of the ADR system is accreditation of the laboratory test the parts to be certified.  Unless the DOT certification lab is also ADR accredited, and certifies the part to ADR xxx it doesn't comply.

And that's when the argument started....

In the real world, it's probably only going to be an issue when something happens and that part becomes subject of the investigation into the failure.
or
when some smart copper or rego inspector decides to make it an issue.

You can buy ADR certified, non-genuine brake lines from someone who is certified to assemble them and uses the correct tools. Lots of mechanics are permitted, but not all.

Good luck to the fellow anyway. I hope he sells a million & has to put staff on to keep up with demand.
cheers

I have read recently that the Dot standard should not just be on the line but on the metal connection as well. This show's that the construction is dot aproved not just the line.
Just something to consider, they look great  8)

I,ve emailed him asking him {probably a dumb} question, is the "dot" stamp on his lines an international standard or not,,

will they comply with  Aus stds

going on his prices and the ones I,ve asked here local with out the "stamp"are very comparable, obviosly a stamped line is worth more than an "ordinary" line, that being said for my money his lines are great value for money,,a new set of lines for the price of a rear tyre

thanks Brian

This is a link supplied by Doug (aka "Rasputin" on the UK and US forums). I've pieced this together from messages he's sent me (hope that's OK Doug) and thank you.

"I have been working with a fellow here to make Rubber and Stainless Steel lines available for XS11 owners worldwide.  Len, who is also known as Chacal on the XJBikes.com forum, is the guy to contact. He is the main sponsor of that site and if you noticed the xj4ever insignia on the top right of the page, that is a direct link to his site.

Some may think I am doing a commercial sales pitch, which I am not. I just simply want these lines available to anyone who may benefit from them. Even people who are trying for a full restore would benefit fom the rubber lines available if they choose too.

I have personally fit them to the north american versions of the Standards, Specials, and the 81LH Midnight Special. He now has a master set to work from and will have them all in stock sometime in early november.
He also has a lot of other brake components like rebiuld kits and caliper pistons, pads, and so much more.

Here are a couple of pictures of the line sets

Here is a link to the price list which shows what is available Price List on XJ forum

The contact info is to email Len at info@xj4ever.com and he will answer any questions.

I have nothing to do with the project other than I took on the test fitting and clocking of these lines. He will ship over the pond and worldwide for that matter.  I would like to know what the members think of the product and pricing etc but it really does not matter to me in the end result. Mostly I just want my effort to benefit the largest amount of XS11 riders it can. The lines and other parts he has are quality pieces.
