Title: Christian's Accident
Post by: xtian on May 12, 2019, 11:46:42 PM
Hi all I heard from a civil engineer friend of mine who knows another in Bathurst.
Seems the surface along the stretch is apparently faulty and my prang was the catalyst.
They have moved heavy road work equipment to the site and I am led to believe work is beginning to repair the road.

These pics taken today - seems that Xtian has some friends in high places
this from one such friend -
Chip seal (likely two coat) and over application of bitumen.
Mirror smooth once it bleeds through and submerges the chip (aggregate).
Naturally hot days make the bitumen near fluid and the chips disappear in the 'Tar Pit'.
The trucks on site are more for show at this stage - they are water tankers.  It will take a while to get the right gear to site.
They might 'box out' as is the traditional way (ie:  dig it all up to a depth of approx 150mm and reconstruct) or stick a stabilising machine onto it with some new roadbase and 'kai-kai olgeta samtink'

That is the first mention/sighting of the bloody cheese grater wire ropes in the centre,,
It could have way more serious with that bastardry there

I have seen a fully loaded dog trailer come off a body truck, hit that stuff and follow it until it stopped,

We mere motorcyclists do not stand a chance

Absolutely. We have a highway local to me I'd like to ride, but won't, because of wire rope "guardrails".
I can just imagine the decapitation that could occur.

Christian, I hope you get better quickly. I always hate when another rider goes down.

Not a good idea for motorcycles but good for cars and trucks.

Makes Bryans knee look like amateur hour.....not that I'd want either of those injuries.

Hows the bike, made a start on any repairs?

Nothing done to bike yet, very restricted left arm movement. Maybe a couple of months before I can even touch the back of my head and not allowed to weight bare yet. Booking in to rehab as soon as I can

Started to get some bits off the bike today, not much but a start.
Had to stop, left shoulder keeps locking up on me :-(

Hi Christian, do you have an accurate assessment of repairs and parts needed yet?

Not really, just getting myself organised first
